Is anyone out there getting tennis elbow from kiting? Im flying the rebel 09 and I find the constant bar pressure is giving me symptoms that match tennis elbow. If I kite for two days straight, each session around 3 hours the following day my elbow is weak and killing me. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Yes,
I use 'Brauer joint and muscle ice gel' or 'Percutane' when Iv'e got a bad case of t/elbow, seems to work.
Also taking Glucosamine and/or fish oil caps are suppose to help.
Just massaging and kneading the painful area can help too.

Only cure that I have found is heaps of stretching. Use Nurofen or similar to reduce the swelling of the inflamed tendons initially then stretch 2-3 times a day, everyday. Check the web for tennis elbow and golfers elbow stretches.

I usually get it at the start of the season when I'm out of kite fitness. The above also works for knee problems.

Known as Cabrinha Elbow around here. It's just a pity that no one has invented a kite with light bar pressure.

I have the same problem and when I am kiting I wear a brace. However when my elbow is inflamed and extremely sore, I use a special brace that you put just below your elbow and you tighten it until it is only just unbearable, after about 10 minutes it seems to loosen and then you re-tighten it. I always wake up the next day as if I never had a problem.

I got this special brace from a Physio and it really works wonders. Also Voltaren tablets for the inflammation and pain and Deep Heat etc just because it feels nice.

I'd recommend ice not heat. It is great that people offer help but you can't beat a professional asessment of your condition.

Go and see a Physio

Try a kite that according to Tobes has not been invented yet LOL.

OR Rise, GK Sonic, Wainman Rabbits and LF Havocs all have light bar pressure solved my tennis elbow problems.

Sarcasm doesn't come across well on a forum does it? Maybe I should have added a

It always amazes me when these threads come up. People suffering chronic pain, taking supplements and drugs, because they fly a kite with high bar pressure, usually one of the pulley bar bows.

There are plenty of light bar pressure options, you can add the Ozones to that list.

Ozone edge from 2008 is the lightest i've felt for a long time. i came from an 11m sonic onto the 11m edge 2 and it instantly cured the (rather minor) tennis elbow problems i was having.

the only cure is a teaspoon of cement! harden up and kite through it. it will go away in time when you learn to relax a lot more.

Have you considered your setup? I remember an article a while ago about the causes of tennis elbow in kitesurfing. A lot of the problems had something to do with riding style (i.e. riding with the bar pulled in instead of riding with the bar powered at arms length.

I'll see if I can dig it up somewhere.

I think we can probably call it kiter's elbow? Considering that most of us probably don't play golf or tennis? Seems to go with the sport, becoming older and physical work.....

The physio I went to told me straight away that my symptoms were 'tennis' though mentioned "chronic degenerative damage from overuse..."- gave the elbows a massage and stretches they felt like new.... for a few hours and the pain came back worse than before.

Now I just continually observe the way I use them and try to minimise the actions that make them worse.

I find that going out underpowered and working the kite, and oversheeting is the worst thing for it, if you have the problem fully focus and observe the feeling in your elbows when kiting and you will learn to keep your arms straighter, make more deliberate and less bar strokes to get going and .....about when enough is enough.....

Wish I had the Benjamin Button Syndrome!

The same has worked for me!!!
Before I had to stop sessions because of the pain, was always taking loads of Voltaren and using deepheat, massage etc etc etc. Pain would go on for ages after a session.

Then I found this and tried it... and it worked

"Prevention

To prevent tennis elbow:

Lift objects with your palm facing your body."

tennis-elbow.net/

So I changed the way I ride, when i'm cruising and riding upwind, I now always use the underhand grip with my back hand (front hand is ok as normal), the same goes for walking up the beach in light winds. It's a habbit you've got to get into. Zero pain now!

I also know how to cure the backache
you get from pumping your kite up!

Add Vapor's to that list too - they have 3 settings for bar pressure, medium, light and where the h*ll is the kite!!

Right on the money $$$$$$$$$$

Ride more powered up with your arms straight trim your kite so it is comfortable at this level.

and..........
Avoid low wind days and kite working...
