Check out www.transperth.wa.gov.au/ and enter in a journey planner from Curtin to places like, Melville (don't know the streets there) and Pelican Point (much closer) which is on Hackett Drive, opposite UWA, which is good on anything with south in it, best on a SW - Melville is also good on a westerly.

Concession bus tickets cost about 80c.

Getting to the coastal spots without a motor is more tricky. Best thing is to post on this forum to see if you can share the costs of driving with someone. Lanclin is only 1.5 hours max, and is a wicked place to ride, and can get bloody windy. The backpackers are good to check to see if someone is doing an extended trip away - catch a ride out of Perth, and then hook up with someone else coming back. There are buses too of course, to the bigger towns, but they aren't going to be going exactly to the spots you might want to go.

There are some great coastal spots in Perth too, although the waves aren't all that. Flat water at Woodies, south of Freo, but a bitch to get to without wheels, otherwise the river. Hope this helps.

Yea there is a shop nearby - Pelican Point Windsports 33 Stirling Highway. They stock Airush, Slingshot, Wipika, F1 and Naish. It is a good 15 minute walk, so not handy for leaving stuff or socialising. Peli Point is pretty cool though - there are a good bunch of people. The set-up area is pretty small, and there are always people around, so it is pretty safe. Everyone is always happy to chat (if they're not getting ready to ride), and they'll let you know what's what about the area and what to look out for.

no. its a good 15k's, plus its on the other side of the river so more like a 20k walk.

the closest spot is melville but thats still a fair way. You could bike it, but it would be into the seabreeze and not much fun. There are buses that run between curtin and melville

Hehe!
I can not help it, I have to share my riding experience!!!

I have to ride sometimes to 'my' spot on the ocean... Motivation makes me easily forget the board on my back, dragging against the seabreeze... And to come back, once exhausted by the kite sesh, riding with a board on your back is just fuuuun!!!! Overpowered straight home!!!!!

That route goes from cutin to pelly point (about a 2k walk from the bus stop), past cot (another 2k walk, probably more) and past leighton (probably a 1k walk over the railway bridge).

Beware it will be like a 3hr journey coz the route takes you to wopwop and back

EDIT* 1hr 40mins from curtin to pelly point + walking time.

Couldnt find a route from curtin to melville but im sure there are some.

carbine that is by far the longest way you could do it, catch a bus to the city train station and go the freo line to north freo station, drops you across from the surf club

about 6.

Thing is the uni year runs from march to mid november.

This is the time when wind isn't that great. Summer is the best, when your on break. So unless your doing a 3rd semester during summer you won't get much kiting in when your at uni.

I fly a mattress...

I guess there s less gear to transport than for a LEI... (smaller kite, no pump...)
and the kite bag's got a special pocket to slide the board in... so handy!!!

if you have a car, it only takes about 10 min to get from curtin to melville... but if you dont just catch the bus from curtin to the city and then to whereever your destination is... i dont know if thats much help but its probably better if you just come to oz and get a feel for it yourself
