loss, damage, theft to equipment (hbf only cover theft)
medical cover in case of accident whilst kiting overseas (hbf wont cover this)

Hey Nonnikers,

Check out the IKO website at www.ikorg.com , they offer health and public liability insurance for kiters which is global. If you follow the link I found below for you, it will take you directly to the page http://www.ikorg.com/latest_news_details.php?nid=54

It does not cover you for loss or damage to your equipment but it does cover you for personal accident and also public liability which are your two real concerns. AKSA insurance ends at the limit of Australias borders so you are uncovered in Fiji. Think about it, a mishap happens, and you mame a US doctor relaxing on the beach with his family ...... your finished!

By the way, I can certify you with the card or you can visit Peli Point or Choicey or any other IKO affiliated Centre.

Hope this helps.

hi nonikkers

I got insurance for my kites being stolen, lost or damaged (in transit). It was a UK based company so may not be any use to you (insureandgo), but maybe give u some idea. they are on the web i think.

I had to pay a premium to get it. there was no standard policy that would cover it. (tried putting it on home contents too). i thought it was still worth it. I have approx 2000 UK pounds worth of equip and i paid just over 300 pounds (for 12 months) to insure them (but the policy covered ordinary holiday stuff too). The premiums rise a lot if your going to or through the US.

I felt it was worth it. If all my gear got stolen with no insurance i think id collapse in a gibbering heap on the floor.

thanks for that darren... i emailed them hopefully they will reply soon

i found one agency www.worldnomads.com/
who are in the process of changing their policy to include kiting
- but only loss/ theft/ damage to equipment when not in use (which is fair enough)
- they will cover medical expenses if you injure yourself while kiting (no other insurance company will cover injury whilst kiting).
-and they do NOT cover personal liability (which i think is a must)

well the place i mentioned above wouldnt cover it in the end...

BUT... what i ended up doing was insuring steve and myself through my business insurance, they added it to my policy for an extra $350.

"policy extended to cover kim and steven from 14th june 05 to 26th june 05. including whilst engaged in kitesurfing.
Equipment ($6900.00), kites and boards.
Note: The cover does not include damage to the equipment whilst in use"

WOO HOO....

seeing as not everyone can get business insurance to cover overseas kiting trips.... cant the kite shops, aksa, kbm or whoever do some research on overseas travel insurance for us aussies, get together some sort of deal and advertise it...
pleeeeeeeease ...

whilst getting it through the business is great its a pain in the bum
