just had my second lesson different instuctor finally got up on board even if it was only 30mt only 10 to 12 knots. The bar was set maximum distance from the trim loop ,arms stretched out fully ,instructor said I kept pulling the bar down flaring the kite in the water start. Was wondering if could change the outside lines to knot A boxer 12 this would set the optimum trim while the bar is close to the trim loop. Also was concerned with the other setting that no room for depower. any tips please

boxers fly well straight out of the bag.
sounds like you needed a little bit more wind.
unless the kite is secondhand and fiddled with, don't change the settings until you know what you are doing and why you are doing it.
the only adjusting is via your power strap.
enjoy and practice.

I would hope all new kites fly well straight out of the bag, but that's another story...

The secret to trim on a c kite is the flare in the tips, some kites can handle flare, others cant. When you learn how much flare the kite can take you will know where to set the trim. Watch and feel the kite.

If the kite flares too much with the bar pulled all the way in you need to either lengthen the back lines or shorten the front lines. Some bar setups this is easy but others it is hard. One common cause of this is replacing the chicken loop line (what the hell is that called anyway) and making it too long.

One easy way to fix this if your bar is not easily configurable is to put little itty bitty extensions on your kite pigtails to reach the desired line lengths. I find this easiest cause you can then trim all your kites to fly off the same bar if need be, meaning if you kill one line set you have something else to use until you deal with it. Or if you leave a bar or two on the beach cause it was too windy when you packed up...

Galah's thought for the day:

As always beware when you hook up a different set of lines, because not all bars are trimmed alike!

Galah's troll for the day:

The secret to trimming a bow kite is to buy a c kite! <runs and hides from the bow lovers>

hehe - i need to find a day job before i can quit it!

hunts has just started out in the sport though, so his education is important to his progression in the sport.

Trouble with kids these days is that the dont understand what impacts a kite's flying ability. I'm always a bit lost when someone says "dont touch it unless you know what you are doing" as opposed to "experiment a little and see what happens". How else are people supposed to learn without trying things?
