okay im bored and i cant think about anything else to do so i thought i would tell everyone about the new underground boards
a team rider showed me their 132 flx but with last years bindings
the bottom of the board was exactly the same with the 4 concave
pritty much everything is the same except the graphics and both the nose and tail have been reshaped. with the current model both nose and tail are shaped like a semi circle kind of curve, one big curve. the new model is now shaped like a "W" with two curves.
if that doesnt make sense ill make a picture
so pritty much 1000 bucks for new graphics new bindings (cross fingers) and some new nose and tail design. i wasnt impressed, im just going to buy the bindings and put them on my 09 board i guesse

Pretty sure when I was talkin to Adrian at Mambo this year he was telling me about the boards being thinner, with thinner rails etc, and having a changed stiffness through the whole board - Flex thru the tips stiff in the middle etc etc. He had a white prototype there with Fluro yellow rails. It wasn't too different, but there WAS a years worth of development in there... I guess we'll see soon enough.

Here's some pictures I've found from the net...

White boards are the Future (Learners)

Board with the pencil type drawings is the Steeze (Wakestyle)

Colourful boards are the FLX range.

Fat Blue and Yellow boards are the Light wind - Zephyr

All boards have 2008 straps too...

What were you expecting, 5 concaves? 5's gotta be better than 4 right?
There's a few pictures of the new Underground's in this thread on kiteforum -
kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2354651

They are releasing a whole range of boards this year, not just the FLX. It looks like there are a few other changes to the FLX though, they're going back to rounded rails, I've heard that the tips are thinner and more flexible..........there is deftinitely a replacement for the footstraps, some kind of binding, but I haven't seen it in any of the photo's yet.

EDIT: Rhys beat me to it....

Hey Geoff, the surfboards are Underground Freewave's. The white one is a 2009 Proto. Hopefully they'll be able to make enough of them in the new factory, there has been a long waiting list for Freewaves so far.

These are for Manic

Looooool I Love it, Forums are funny places...

Anyone else reckon the Steeze boards could have done with some waaaaaay better graphics?

The FLX boards DONT have binding inserts this year either so its their way or the highway. I Think ill drill my boot plates out to get on a 35 FLX...

Here's my new FLX with old pads straps and a cab handle as they haven't been made yet the end of March is the release date I believe, then I'll update them.
This board is actually a 132 custom, not the '35
IMO it rides a little better than last years and has better flex.
Unless I've been lucky it seems to turn pads up more than the old boards but it doesn't look to have more rocker, maybe my imagination?
It does have thinner rails and carves a little better than other models as well, So it's not exactly the same anyway thats my 2 cents.
Also the Freewave's you are asking about are sooo hard to get a hold of and were only ever made to order I think I tried ordering one about 5 or so months ago now, just can't get one, also tried getting one from the shop direct when I was in NZ at Xmas time but nope, but it did allow me to get this board way early , so that was cool atleast, thanks again Adrian! for another nice ride

but why? its such a Steezy name, you'll definitly be rolling with steeze if you rode such a steezy steeze board. your tricks will look pretty steezed out and your steeze level will be much higher.

it would be such an epic combo with their new backless binding system they are bringing out.

2009 Underground TT range

For 2009 Underground will have 4 twin tip models:

Future: the new freeride board which comes in three sizes, it has slightly more rocker, flex and outline curve than the FLX line.
Steeze: Undergrounds wakestyle machine
Zephyr: light wind line
Flx: Already a classic, remains the high-end allround freestyle/competition/allround line.

Holy cow... 09 boards that come out in 09. Freaky sh!t.
I hope they made them lighter. I find my FLX a little heavy (damn wood cores) and a tiny bit too stiff. 09s look nice. And if there is a bit more flex in the tips then they have fixed at least one of my gripes. Just 2 left,
1. Make them weigh less
2. Make $1000 appear in my bank.

I've got 2 x 5"4" Freewaves in stock, one in a lime green and the other in a burnt orange

New 09' TT ranges about 3 weeks away now, there has been a delay with the new binding things.
The boards are not just 08 boards with new graphics, its hard to see the difference in the top and bottom shapes in pics or the internal layups too.

found the info sheet:

UNDERGROUND kiteboards 2009

The UNDERGROUND board range 2009 has grown. We now supply five different board types:

FLX, FUTURE, STEEZE, ZEPHYR and FREEWAVE and there are more to come.
We aim for the best in quality and performance to provide the perfect board for every rider.
Whether you are just learning to ride or ripping in worldcup freestyle competitions, cruising in light
winds or boosting big in storms, enjoying small waves or charging barrels – the 2009 Underground
board range has the tool for you to have a great time.
To complete the package the R&D team has designed a great new range of board accessorries.
There are new CNC shaped G10 fins suiting each board line, a new grab handle and the new top of
the line pad/strap system, featuring a new generation of comfortable, user friendly, high performance
kiteboarding pads/straps.

FLX
In 2009 the legendary FLX remains the high-end freestyle and competition board.
It features the proven QUADconcave bottom shape, a strong and eco-friendly Paulownia WOODcore and a CARBON reinforced and flex tuned BIAXglass laminate.
The new thickness flow creates thinner tips that provide exceptional flex control by using defined unicarbon reinforcements while the new bat-wing tips and rail shape offer a smoother ride with supreme edge-control.
The five available sizes have been refined carefully to provide the perfect board for the special needs of any freestyle riders pushing the limits.
This year there are two graphic ranges.
The Euro Ink graphics lead modern board design into the future.
The Legends graphics are based on South Pacific mythology, and tell the stories of island magic on
the deck of each board.
Choose a tool and show your moves.
124x37, 128x38, 132x39, 135x41, 138x43

FUTURE
Another new toy in the 2009 Underground board range is the FUTURE.
This range is for the freerider, looking for a board that is just easy and fun to ride. You might be
learning, or riding waves or even doing tricks and jumps - this board can do it all, and will push you
to the next level while having a lot of fun.
All this combined with an affordable price, will make it a popular board.
134x40, 141x42, 146x44

ZEPHYR
The ZEPHYR is a specialist light wind board.
The design gives excellent low wind performance while retaining good freestyle potential. The same
construcion has been used as for the FLX, in combination with an early planing, single concave
bottom shape and a relatively short but super-wide outline. Like the FLX the ZEPHYR is available in
the two graphic styles. Modern Euro Ink graphics and Greek Legends graphics.
Don’t limit yourself to cruising when it’s light.
138x44, 144x46

STEEZE
The STEEZE is a brand new, dedicated wakestyle board.
Both board sizes provide three super-wide, wakeboard-binding stance options, and two strap stance options. They have the rocker, length and width you need to load the board and throw those wakestyle moves with power and style. The QUADconcave bottom shape has flat sections at the rails and between all concaves. These givethe rider the great control in the water, and increased durability. The board is offered complete or deck with fins only to use it with wakeboard-bindings. Add some style and make it look easy.
133x42, 139x43

FREEWAVE
The genius FREEWAVE concept is unique to Underground. There are now four great wavebord sizes
and the boards have a softer flex, a recessed deck and are very tough. The full deck pad with a tail
kick makes them a pleasure to jibe and ride strapless.
The FREEWAVE will be amazing fun in perfectly clean waves and epic in those not so good wave
conditions, which most of us are used to. It doubles as a great flat water freestyle board for those
light wind days.
Small (approx 5’4“) squash-tail thruster
Medium (approx 5’8“) squash-tail thruster
Large (approx 6’2“) squash-tail thruster
5’10“ fish, fish-tail twin

NEW pad/strap system 2009
The R&D brief was simple but hard to achieve: design the best pad/strap system on the market.
Research clearly showed that we needed to come up with something completely different and develop
new technology.
The result is the new top of the line system which offers a new generation of comfortable, user
friendly, high perfromance pad/strap design.

Underground Fins – 2009
All Underground fins will be CNC shaped G10 for precision, consistency and durability. The base
curve of the FLX, Future, Zephyr and Steeze fins are designed to match each board range, and so are
not interchangeable.
FLX & Future are supplied standard with 50mm fins. We have a 40 mm option as well.
Zephyr boards are supplied with 45mm fins.
Steeze are supplied with 30mm fins.
Freewave boards have Future fin boxes and are supplied with fins.
Grab Handle
All new super stylish very comfortable!

"Steeze" is probably the single most worst name you could ever call your board if you wanted your company to have any respect in the "wakestyle" genre.
The word "steeze" has absoloutley nothing to do with kiteboarding, and if you haven't noticed the word of late has been one big joke within the wakestyle comunity.
Even if you named it that as a joke i still think people would just think its lame.
I suggest a name change if you want to keep some credibility.

Im not having a go at you here, im just letting you know what the people you are marketing this board towards are going to think.

Good luck with all the gear in 2009/10.
