boosting big and doing board offs looks heaps better than getting 5 feet of the water and doing a tiny grab

ok then try

unhooked kite loops; or
raileys; or
s-send's; or
F16's; or
a whole heap of wake style tricks that are done at 100% power...

boosting big is fun and all, however that's only one tiny part or the sport !, there's many more directions...

RichR, sounds like you need that lesson soon as. Then you'll see why there is a need to hook in, and how it helps you control the power of the kite. At your level, all aspects of flying the kite depend on hooking in. Once you get on the board, you will be grateful to sit back into your harness and let the kite do all the work, rather than hanging on with your arms.

Unhooked is a different aspect to the sport, just like wave riding is. In fact waveriding itself can be a lot more fun and even easier once unhooked. There is nothing more satisfying than landing from on unhooked backloop kiteloop (F16 i think) and adding a little surface handle-pass. Unhooked requires a different level of skill and advances your board use skills, such as edging and landings. Try it.

I was quite pleased with myself for remembering F16, so don't give me any more letters and numbers. I can't do them, let alone remember their dumb ass names.

My keyboard only goes up to f12. And the L3 is when you are layin back in ur armchair and spin the wireless keyboard around 3times on ur lap and hit the 'L' key, pretty lame really.

Apparently when kiting started over here everyone was unhooked when jumping it was considered 'uncool' to hook in and jump and everyone thought that it was a stupid sport till "Tobes" could actually go upwind then everyone wanted one. End of the history lesson. Good Night

it would be cheaper - at least we wouldnt need to buy new kite gear every year to keep up with the latest and greatest...

I fear for Rich Relo's life.

Get yourself to some kiting lessons mate. Fast. And possibly some English ones as well.

He doesn't know about hooking in?

Kee-riste!
