It has a little bit of buoyancy but not too much. Fits under a waist harness easily ( it has a cut out to accomodate it ) I thought it was pretty good value at about $100- definitely helped with the impact but because it stretched I stopped wearing it, needs to be a real tight fit.

Didn't you get winged recently petal? Bet the blanky felt nice then

Ian - I was extremely grateful to be wearing a vest, at least twice on my last sesh. I was surprised not to have actually busted a rib even with a vest on after one particularly monster stack (this sesh also featured my biggest kitemare so far but that's another story).

Ultimately if it keeps you on the water or gives you more confidence to boost (or whatever) a bit higher/faster/harder then go the vest I reckon.

Leave the HTFU brigade to sit on the beach nursing flogged ribs.

i agree
absolutely when trying new tricks the side impacts are the worst and the easiest to inflict on your ribs think i will go with A10 attck it has floatation PFD abilities

cheers for all the comments

I got an impact vest for xmas last year from my family. Went out in 35 gusting 45 and above(10m North rhino) feeling pretty safe in my new Dakine u beaut impact vest . pulled a huge air got second lifted in a gust came in sideways from a great height and broke 2 ribs and sustained damage to kidney and spleen. I think I landed on the bar. Moral of the story don't over estimate the protective properties of an impact vest.

make sure it fits tight, they move around with the waist harness which becomes a real pain. But I still wear mine, old as it may be.

They all give a bit of floatation, but the A10 is the only rated impact vest (to my knowladge, feel free to prove me wrong).

I've got a A10 and love it, though be warry with the waist harness if you crash like superman it can push the vest up (and your helmet over your eyes, full luke skywalker kiting ). Was looking at cutting out the square above the hook and sewing the edges but haven't gotten there yet. I'll post a pic when I've done it (January at this point)

If you dont wear an impact vest you aint progressing. Big move, mean big falls. Without protection you are either dumb or stuck doing you same routine... let me guess, you are great at backrolls maybe little fronties and a railey?

Start pulling mobes and then say HTFU otherwise STFU.

Anyway back to the topic. Dakine Impact harness combos are great. Anything with solid rib, and back protection. Not only did mine save my life after when I had my accident, it has saved my back on countless occations when over rotating whilst landing blind.

the htfu w23kers r back.
wear a vest and kite another day, don`t wear a vest and risk ribs .
its hard to hold your breath underwater if your winded from a big fall. do the math!!

if your kite is damaged for some reason and you have to self rescue you`ll float while winding in your lines.

No problem, you weren't to know that ianmac is an old cripple with a stuffed back and has to strap up his ankle just to walk to the water.

I assumed you're just suffering from wind envy

well it appears Slack will now need a wheel chair to get to the water as he stacked it so badly last night that he will not be able to kite tonight
maybe he should upgrade to an A10 attack vest to help protect his back

Hey Ian are you wearing a seat harness?

The A-10 looks like it suits a seat only.

I am currently on a seat but would like to go for a waisty this season, although the meagre $$ will most likely get channelled into a 100% depower kite asap. Ahem... my very old bump n jump vest has also been ripped wide open and repaired twice and is in need of replacement.

Does anyone have suggestions on a vest with enough float to notice a diff that suits a waisty? Doesn't have to be a PFD (ha ha or pdf) just a bit of float and good impact protection would be cool.

Im in the market for a PFD/Impact vest to help me progress this season too. For those who are wearing the A10 and waist harness do you wear the harness over the vest or the vest harness over the vest?

I recently took my LF waist harness in to try on some vests found that the harness pushes the vest up under my arms and became too restrictive. Will a tighter fitting vest than that i would wear wake boarding help keep the vets down?
