I absolutly hate the cold and dont have much meat on me so I get cold quickly I use a billabong oscillator 4mm sealed wetty and its great. Had many early morning surfs when its only 9/10 degrees outside and never felt cold.

will be using it to kite this winter im sure.

Yeah, I think the same, 3 - 4 mm will be enough. I have one of those RipCurl, which it is a little bit expensive, however, their warranty is for life
They fixed mine, under warranty last year, it was already 3 y o, and the stitches started to fray. I sent it to there store in Geelong and get it back seven days later fixed no questions asked, even no proof of purchase, just the RipCurl brand was enough.

buy o'neil, you cant go wrong.
their new ones are pretty warm, i can go out any time in winter in melbourne in mine, not sure if it is a 5/3 or a 4/3 but is very comfy, you might be ok with a 3/2 if you get a good model in perth.

Most wetsuits in Austrlia are designed for surfing. We don't really need really thin material on the shoulders or lower back, because we don't paddle and we wear a harness.

We need plenty of smooth skin (cut down on wind chill) and thicker materials on the upper body to stop heat loss.

Hence the overseas brands tender to cater for the general watersports market and are often more 'suit'able.

I purchased an Xcel wetsuit. Having got fed up with home brand 'fashion' wetsuits (Rip Curl etc).

Brilliant suits. Coming from a pommie who is used to needing the warmth.

I will second that about the Radiator.

Or another brand,Roaster ?

For those that dont know, they are 1mm rubber with a silver lining.Look like a rash vest on the outside.

In summer use instead of a rashie. No wind chill, sun protection.

In Winter, wear under your wettie instead of a rash vest, you will be as warm as toast.

"Radiator utilises a new type of wetsuit material technology in its material. This material has a 4 layered construction comprising an “SCS Metal” - “slipskin” inner lining reflecting body heat, a closed cell neoprene rubber core, a Titanium lining which acts as a highly efficient barrier to the cold and a nylon jersey outer layer for durability."

sounds like someone has their hand on their dick.

really its just nylon (with lycra/spandex) outside, same as a normal rashie. With neoprene inside layer (wetsuit material) and a bit of speccy spray paint.

Just buy a stock standard Rip Curl or other brand and then get some booties, they make heaps of difference as your feet dont go numb. And if you dont like your ears getting cold then get a hood. Dont worry about the fancy super stretch materials and taped blind seams, not much benefit to kiting unless you plan to bob around in the water for a long time. They do make a hell of a difference if your surfing!, but then I cant wear my steamer at this time of the year as its too warm.

I can second the earlier comment about Rip Curl backing their products, I have their gear for over twenty years and in this time they always have repaired any issue at no cost to me, excellent service.

I am the CEO of Radiator so I confess to a biased position but I thought I might give you guys some info on the wetsuit industry to make your buying decisions a bit easier.

Wetsuits are made from neoprene and the biggest neoprene manufacturer in the world, by far, is a company called Sheico based in Taiwan. Pretty well everyone (except us) uses their rubber.

Pretty well all the suits now are made in Asia from subcontract manufactures so the manufacturing technology is available to everyone.

So when you boil it down, the fact is, the rubber is the same, the manufacturing techniques are the same – the suits are all basically the same.

In our case we use a different type of rubber which is made by a Japanese company, Yamamoto. It is made from a limestone base rather than petro-chemicals like the others. Without going into a whole lot of technical info the result is a better cell structure with less open cells. Which means it is lighter and warmer.

So what is the best suit? Simple. It is the one that fits your body the best, made from quality rubber at a realistic price.

Have a look at the surf mags. See how many ads there are. How many sponsored surfers and “surf company” execs sitting back on their company charted boats and planes then ask yourself – who pays for all that?

Question for Radiator Bob:

Does Radiator offer a similar free repair deal that Ripcurl does? If so I'll be in to buy a suit tomorrow. It's not a leading question - I have a radiator vest (which I love) and use your gloves in the winter (also excellent) and the wife has one of your spring suits (also very happy) but I am sick of buying wetties and having them fall apart in no time flat. That's why the idea of free repair is so appealing, even if the suit isn't as performant. I'm not hard on my wetties but I have 3 prolimit suits that are only 2 seasons old and they are in tatters so before i drop $400+ I want to know I won't be doing it again in 9 or 10 months

See you tomorrow maybe

I got a mystic wetsuit when I got my Impact kite.

5/3 but feels as comfy as a 3/2. Has all the stuff a top line Ripcurl claims to have plus some kite specific things.

I only used it twice so far, doesn't hold water in legs like my others and super easy to get on and off.

about $200 cheaper than a ripcurl so I reakon i have a goodun.

Mystic. can I get some sponsorship now?

Rip curl made wetties 1 or 2 years ago that had lots of silver reflective stuff on them. I find this is GOLD for kiting as it stops the wind chill. I also have a rashie with this shinny stuff and its warmer then a hot skin (radiator) cause it stops the wind chill.
They have heaps at a real cheap pric at birkenhead point. mainly springys

i understand what bob at Radiator says about the big brands and sponsorship dollars etc. But. My wetty that i purcahased from a seconds shop, used for two years, never washed it, left it in the back of the ute, let the dog sleep on it, well it kinda fell apart. Anyhow i took it back to the shop and a week later it was returned to me at no cost fully rebuilt. Its better than new. I am not going to metion the brand as i dont want to look like im sponsored or anything.
So if all wetties are basically the same the difference comes down to price and after sales service.
