Guys im moving down to perth at the end of the year from the top end. I've done my apprentiship on a 12m X2 and have found the time to move on. Im looking at a 12m Raven. My question is would i find any time to use a 12m if im over powered in 18 to 20

Hey mate,

I'm no expert (1.5 seasons) but I'd say you'll be right on most of the time with a 12m.

I'm 6ft 4, weight abouyt 82kgs and am no **** hot kiter, and I fly a 12m Gaastra Stealth 90% of the time. I have a 9.5 Naish for the heavier days, but it rarely gets a fly.

Have fun in perth, it's a mintox place.

i disagree
i am 6'2 and weigh 86kg and i find i use my 8 as much as my 12.
guess it depends what u wanna do and where u kite
if u are gonna be ridin waves and unhookin then u will want somethin smaller.
even if u keep ur 12 and get an 8 when u come over.
season is gonna crank up soon so there will be heaps of people selling their 1 year old kites to upgrade to the new models.

That's Ok Caution, I don't do waves at all yet, so there's the difference I guess.

I was 110kg when I did a season in Perth and struggled to hold down my 13 most days. Get a 9 or something since it rarely blows less than 18kts.

I've kited in Perth for 5 years and 6 in total and there is no doubt at all that an 11m or 12m is generally accepted as the kite of choice if you only have access to one kite.

I thought so. Those other guys had me wondering if I have a seriously under-poweed 12m kite!!!

If I was a real prick, this is where I'd say 'I told you so'.

But I'm not so I won't.

Ok, maybe an 11 and not a 9, but if I come back I'll be thinking of getting a smaller kite than my 13

will also depend largely where u kite
12 fine for the river most of the time

but if on the ocean that same day 8/9/10 will be required, especially the further north u go

better still buy a crossbow 12 and it wont matter diddlysquat

recent trip we were out on 9 to 13 depending on wind
one guy took his x bow 12 all he rode all week
gusts up to 29kn one arvo

I reckon 12m is good in Perth, waves or flat, you'll get out most days - just go out earlier in the day if strong winds are forecast. An 8-10m would be good if you can afford a second kite and you want to make the most of conditions.

12 is probably best.
But you need to get a biege one, not enough biege kites.....they look so pretty and can be secret too.
