It's not their fault ! Do you think you could do it better ?? Why don't you do your own forecast? The maps and data are readily available.

God sends the wind. Not the man from Bom.

Its there job.

They don't even forcast. They say 15-20knots the day before then if there isn't any wind by 12.00am they just revise it down.

You read the forcast plan the day around going to the beach it comes around 2.00pm and there isn't a fart in the sky. Waste of a day!

I know a way that you can move forward (rather than shooting people!) I've spoken with the crew at the Bom and they're all into it and doing the best they can.

Maybe read www.seabreeze.com.au/info/wind.asp to get you interested/started in how forecasting works. Then, when you see a forecast, you can look out how they came to their conclusions and maybe add your own educated bias.

For example, the very data that *all* forecasters use is dodgy at best. To get an idea of what the the current barometric pressure is, you need someone or something to measure it at that spot. Easy on land, but to get the readings at sea (which you need for incoming weather) you have to rely on reports from ships that happen to be in the area - otherwise you're left guessing (or to put it mathamatically - interpolating).

Enjoy .. Lozza

p.s. Having good quality darts can really spoil the chances of a good forecast - better to have k-mart ones that go all over the place.

I understand the problems they have with forcasting especially on the west coast... BUT what about when they do the 4pm update of "SW 18-23kn continuing till midnight bla bla bla" When it is obviously still blowing easterly... never changed to a sou-wester and not even likely to?
Or then there is the good old saturday and sunday updates that are just a roll on of what the dude on Friday wrote.... cause the work experience kid is the only one there to do the up-dates..?

Hey Azza I didn't say that their eyes worked

Trust me on this:: "Don't believe the weather forecasts !"

The main problem with BOM is they are damned if they do and damned if they don't !

If they forecast wind, and it doesn't happen ,you are unhappy.

If they forecast NO wind, and then it blows, there are a heap of angry boaters !

Also, bear in mind that BOM factors in a risk factor because of all the **** they copped after that bad Sydney to Hobart race.

Check Seabreeze, they are much more realistic.

Being a bit of a weather freak myself... one day I was scanning the internet for jobs and noticed an add for Science Grads at BOM. It was a long add, but breifly: after a few months of training the first job the grads were given was weather forecasting. So if you've been into your wind sport for more than a year, then you probably have more experience (if not the technical knowledge) in weather predicting than them. That add explained alot to me.

Give the weather forecasters a break guys.....it's not an easy job to do....we live on an island (yeah I know quite a large one!) with different weather systems all around us that change constantly and add to that everything humans are doing to mess it all up.....they can't possibly get it right every single time & it's a wonder if they ever do......not a job I'd like. So, if you don't think they're not providing you with the best service, stop your b*&^ing and moaning and get off your backside and work it out yourself

Can you honestly say that you've performed 100% in your job every day of the year, not getting anything wrong! He who has can then cast the first stone.

Bet no-one's complaining about the graphs being wrong today. Had a sick session at Pinaroo from 5 until dark

Didn't even expect to get out today reading the graph, but as always the trees, flags, water tell the real story as do my arms
