Charlotte told us that there was no run-off at the end of the course and the only way to stop was to ditch the kite and roll. Not pleasant!

When the wind/tide is good altona can be awesome for speed runs...

Faster than the cars...

But for real epic speed runs, inverloch and sandy point in behind the sand bars...

Without proof it never happened...

Saw a dude get skull dragged through the dunes this afternoon at scarbs. I would say he did at least 40km an hour for the first 10m

A 47kts (87kmh) peak, a 45kts 10 sec run and a 43kts (79kmh) 10 sec average (5 best 10 sec runs averaged; which forms the official speed www.gps-kitesurfing.com uses for rankings) was my best in the short time I did some speed kiting. Moved to Auckland for a while where there was a couple of good places to speed-kite but sadly had to move back to Sydney where there is nowhere so never got to break the goal I was working towards of 50kt 10 sec run. I miss speed kiting hugely. If you ever get the chance to get on a dedicated speed board at a good venue for it (long dead flat water) then I heartily suggest you give it a try (you really don't get anywhere near it on a twin tip in normal conditions). Proper speed-kiting is more fun and thrilling than the 'who cares crowd' might imagine. I freestyle, boost and surf in equal amounts and speed-kiting I found to be a further great adjunct to the sport. Once you get above 40kts the sensation of speed and power is incredible and every few knot increments above that feels like an exponential increase in speed. And the crashes get exponentially more thrilling too.
