You stopped wind surfing for a reason, why go back to it ten years later?

Kite. You won't regret it.

A group of us windsurfed for around 20years or more, and decided to take up kiting for the light wind days only.
Within a couple of months, the windsurfing equipment was either sold off or shoved under the house.
Seven years later we're all still kiting, however, a couple of the original crowd have not made the transition, and after all this time probably won't.
Give kiting a try and make a decision based on experience rather than what others think.

I used to windsurf. I did it twice at highschool on a board the size of a small aircraft carrier and a sail the size of a beach towel.

I kite now and find it much more fun......

start kiteboarding and become addicted like the rest of us fortunate soles.
i remember wind surfing as a teenager and it was alot harder to learn and more frustrating.
i started kiteboarding a year and a half ago and love it more each time i`m out.

Picked up some windsurfing gear on the beach after not windsurfing for 7 years, recon it was bolted to the ground,
lost all the muscles and brain required to do it

kitings overrated

another sad case

surfsky, you can see if you swing the kite surfing way you will be prone to serious bouts of windsurf nostalgia. Not too unlike what RayQ is going through at the moment. Mate, we've lost many a great man to this terrible condition. We don't want to loose you too!

Hi Surfsky,
Depends on what you say is windsurfing to a fairly advanced level. I do both, use the kite when the wind is too light to sailboard. If I was just reaching back and foward on a sailboard I would have sold the gear and be full on kiting. As it is I love foward loops and rolls so once I can get on my 5.2 and 85ltr board the kite stays in the car.
My quiver starts with a 12mtr 08 Best Nemi then a 5.2, 4.6 and a 4mtr wave sail on a 85 ltr F2 maui wave board or a 70ltr Naish when it is cranking.

Kiting is very easy to learn and great for the lighter days, 70% of my days is spent on the kite as this is the wind we get in Brissy. Foward and back rolls are fun and you get heaps more height with jumps. Just starting to learn unhooked stuff.
When the wind is up sailboards are easy as no need to have and assisted launch or landing (makes things easier especially on a beach with little room). Sailboards also really give you that speed rush as they are definately quicker. I'm more comfortable on a sailboard in the waves, to much to worry about with a kite if you drop it.
Both are great, each have their advantages and disadvantages just depends on conditions and sailing/kiting spot. If things go wrong a kite will bite much harder than a sailboard.
Hope this helps

Why not try kiting with a sailboard!
