You seem to think that Gnaraloo is still a secret spot? Sorry to burst that bubble, but those days are long gone.
Distance is still the biggest factor that keeps the numbers down. It takes commitment to get there. Quite a few get to Gero, find Corros and don't get any further.
1 day of comp is a five day period is hardly taking over the joint.

nope.
imo they have as much right to have a crack at a comp there as the search comp years back.
your posts reek a bit of "not in my yard" syndrome. and yet from past posts/profile it seems you are in the tourism industry to a degree, and expose the areas you think are ok to share with a wide crew of people over time (where do you think there holiday snaps go?). they do happen to be other peoples "yards" as well you know.

anyone in water sports that doesn't know gnaraloo already is under a rock. anyone that is a kook that rocks up and it is 6-8' and heaving, or even 4-6' and 25kn+, won't be out there anyhow. and it is pretty bl00dy isolated as stated by posters in the other thread.

personally i think margs main would be better for comp and for getting a live crowd/exposure, but i don't windsurf, so wouldn't know where provides the better comp conditions. if the riders say gnaraloo, i reckon good on em for putting on a show. maybe you can plan a holiday somewhere else for the comp window next year, maybe sumbawa? but ssssssshhhhhhhhh, no photos or video, don't want to over expose it!

Is suppose filming comps could create exposure to this area - but that would need viewers who actually watch. Does anyone watch windsurfing??

^^^ No one seriously thinks this is a secret spot; that's not the point. Surfers lobbied hard to ensure this was not a contest venue, not to keep it secret but to maintain it's aura and style for the average committed surfer. So in part it's about respecting that.

Comps benefit a few not the masses that use the spot.

I bet the windsurfers as a whole would massively oppose a Kite comp there, and I'd support them.

In case you missed it:

area is undergoing ownership changes so in the future it may be either too expensive or too difficult to arrange an event there.

I'd be more worried about what happens when Colin and his mates get their hands on the place than a windsurfing comp
