Im over work...it sucks! It also seems there are others that agree...there are some people who Kitesurf just about EVERYDAY that there is a decent wind! Of these people there are many of them that do in fact work. What do you do? What are the best jobs for kiters who want maximum time to get out?

Self employed is the way to go - work the hours you want.

Or - tradies - they start early & knock off early.

Ideally, trade the stockmarket from a laptop in your motorhome parked at the beach while you wait for the wind to come up....thats my dream!

The best jobs for kiting I'd say would be traders, builders (early start 6am -2pm or so), or have your own business... I'd also say teachers (one past their 1st and 2nd year) have pretty good hours- 8am-3.15pm (Bar the marking at night/ during class and preperation), but the time wasted sitting around waiting for wind, the marking and prepartion for the coming weeks and work can be done... and don't forget the joy of working with kids also ... and don't forget the December and Jan holidays and 3 weeks mid year, and show holidays, pupil free days, and mid-term breaks... (dec and jan holidays are prime kiting times also :D)

Ideally, one should work, live and kite locally as it makes a huge difference to when and if you can kite! A 30minute drive will deter most people from finishing work at 3.15 getting there are 3.45, setting up etc., and only get about 2-3 hours out there! 5-10 minute drive would be a dream!

I'll also add in being a UNI student Apart from not being able to work full time and get a decent income because of qualificatons and time etc., the four months holiday nov->feb we get between out studies in the prime kiting time is worth it That's one up side of being a uni student now I think about it

Being a kiting instructor is good too, sleep in till late, check the weather, have brekky. Go to beach do a lesson or two, call off subsequent lessons as the wind meter exceeds 20 knots and kite all arvo. This however can also be the worst/best job at times when you have 15 perfect teaching knots and all your friends are out boosting and you are committed to teach. Very rewarding though when your students make massive gains and come in grinning like a fox in the chicken coop after their first powered body drag. I still love it after 5 and a half years.

I still reckon its the best job ..... till winter! Casual work and surfing is good though, or if your single, going chasing the sun and wind.

Overall, I guess it's like Mt Plow says, it's all about being self employed

Good winds all

Well certainly working whenever you want to work is a huge advantage so you can work specifically on no-wind days. So the business from home thing sounds good. But I have no idea on any of those things.

I dont see how you can have time to be a full time uni-student and kite? How do you ever make money while you are on uni?

I reackon something that has shiftwork in it would be great so you can cash up on the penalties and allowances. You could do shifts on Satuday and Sunday from 5pm-12pm or early ones from 6am-1pm. The double time would make up for one day.

What kind of work is there at Bundall that only takes a few hours?

I saw Fight Club last night (awesome movie) a Tyler Durton job changing film at the movies would be good. You wouldn't be in peoples faces and you could probably do whatever the %@#% you wanted.

The key is to get a great timetable like I have this semester-UNI lectures and tutes on Monday from 8am->2pm | and Wednesday 8am->5pm | 10 Prac days this year (easy!) . Work at Before and After School Care, Childcare and admin in between, and Vacation Care during the holidays... The key is to have a very understanding boss who understands that both uni and kiting are important, and I'm set Then the weekends and the spare days that I'm not working (Tues, Thurs and Fri) are all kiting, and then the pile of assignments are done with the time left over, and credit's and distinction's can still be achieved...

So for me, work's like a charm
