The powerlock should be out soon, you could use a second loop if you are desperate but its winter and the wind is crap so hang in there. They'll be out before the start of the windy season we all call summer... I'll be a happy chappy when they are out.--- Other than that I love the kite and wont ride me old ones.

hmm gnaraloo soon.....ohh yeah

No matter how you look at it, its a step foward.
You have to admit, when 14m kites are literally falling out of the sky, and some bloke is planing (and staying upwind) on a 12m and 130 drop, it is a decent kite irrespective of small things like bar pressure.
It may not be a kite for all though

Yep seen that too.
And the other extreme. I was out for about 30 mins in really crappy gusts on a 7M - adjusting the trim, having no fun at all bw sinking to hanging on - & there was a 9M & 2 12M XBows all cruising along & smiling, from when I arrived till after I left.
I havent rushed out to buy one yet - but Im seriously wondering Y not

I think that there are some minor issues with the bow, like bar pressure, and perhaps self launching being challenging, but overall i just adore this kite.
it does for me everything i want in a kite and a little more thrown in. Again time will tell how great this kite is and as is the same with washing powder the next model will be new and improved, just like the traditional kites have been.
I love my bow, and i'm off to caress it as the wind is crap.....

The cracks are starting to show

Seems WA was the only state to get over hyped about a fairly good BEGINNER to Intermediate kite.

Geezz the WA distributor must be a bloody good salesman.

As I said before great for the VOLVO drivers, seems there are quite a few in WA.

Shooters trolling 4 a bite.
An like all good fishermen he's always up to changing lures mid troll.
I like that last one ....very flashy.........lets just wait-n-see.

ps: I wonder 2 just what qualifications &/or test flight experience RK has which endows him with the ability to categorise new a release kite so emphatically within the boundaries of the, I would have thought still somewhat nebulous virtues, of a "BEGINNER to intermediate kite"

Hey there Wave.

I think "the meaning of kite" is just being out there in the elements and loving it.

My new toy gives me the above, better, cheaper and faster.

Dunno about that kiterdan, The few times I've seen the x-bow riders out, they've been doing just as much walking upwind in the light days as the rest of us on similar sized kites and boards.

Haven't seen anything amazingly different from a x-bows performance compared to the conventional kites on the same day come to think of it!?

Damn I hope we get some wind this weekend...

Guys are getting out on crossbows in less wind with smaller kites, they turn faster than conventional LEI's, the depower makes them perfect for gusty bull#### easterlies and the powerlock will be out soon. If only we could all afford them no one would be debating their worth.

Nicely put Gruezi!
Being out in the elements and enjoying it is what should come first, if someone is finding its more important to have the latest kite, they are not part of the Alkiter network.
Membership of Alkiter is unasked for, it is not an organization, there is no leader, or at least none that could be named.
The disparraging work of the Poleclan minnions, teamprawns and the general lemmings, is ineffective to Alkiters.

A message from the Alkiter Network.

Kiters didnt have to wait till 2006 to get a kite that depowered by pushing the bar out. RRD did it with the wave type in 2005.
Apparently one of the 2006 RRD kites will have an option of having two different bars: one for waves (push out to depower), one for freestyle. All will have the same bridle as RRD wave type I.
This will be the second season for the kite so the flaws with the bar and bridle system will have been addressed.
Not sure if the windrange compares to crossbow though. Anyone ridden both?
And it is a bit cheaper too!!!

The Nova has got to be a better kite than the x-bow simply because of the design teams expirence, is anyone riding a Nova yet?

doesn't jump as high??
Maybe, but after all, it is a wave kite.
We'll have to wait for this summer. The RRD R&D team are here this summer.

wave kite?

Would be usefull if there was some waves.

R&D team.

Lol!.

There isn't much science that goes into making these kites. The people who design them are backyarders just chucking there hand at it.

Don't kid your self that there are "R&D teams".

Look at best.

Stop talking sheit Carbine... Go and learn the basic's between a pulley bar and a sheetable bar before you start to comment on the reality of R & D teams... I've seen such teams at work, even in our small corner of the world, I've even ridden some of them my self...

wtf has pulley bars got to do with me commenting on brands r&d? (btw I know the difference, do you?)

downloading surfplan off the interweb doesn't constitute r&d.

Who are the big brands with R&d teams? Naish, North...?

I've never ridden a R & D team... How do they handle? Can you ride them all at once, or is it just one member at a time? Are they fussy about who goes on top? Did you get to ride in the middle?

I find this intriguing, I've wondered about the "group thing", now that kite manufacturers are offering it to us I might just try it. Which brands are offering this service on our beaches? (I guess we can put Best down as a definite, thanks Browneee.) Is there much difference in the ride between one brand and the next, or is it all just marketing hype? Is bigger better?

And what about bar pressure... is a firmer bar better for riding a team?
