wave kite?
Would be usefull if there was some waves.
R&D team.
Lol!.
There isn't much science that goes into making these kites. The people who design them are backyarders just chucking there hand at it.
Don't kid your self that there are "R&D teams".
Look at best.

There are no waves in the world? WTF?
No science going into making kites? Backyarders making kites? Perhaps a backyarder couldnt be ****ed putting a more traditional arc in the kite and came up with the flat bow kite? No modelling and analysis of the products I suppose? No prototypes, just finished products that aren't tested in anyway and thrown on the market [Not saying that there havent been huge mistakes made by brands though!]. Why not just use a tarpolin with a broom handle and fishing line and a logo screen-printed on the top? Cause its been tested and it doesnt work! (Although didn't some try this?)

I didn't say no science I said not much science. (Hot tip, read then reply).
Each brand has 1 or 2 people designing kites. These guys are windsurfers or kitesurfers with little experience in manufacturing or design and no formal training. They have the same ability as you or me to design a kite and most of the time its like what you say trial and error, not actual thought out design.
Now why aren't there proper R&D teams? The margins aint there? Why because anyone can enter the market design a kite and hire a factory. We might get to a stage where kite manufacturing becomes too specialised for the average backyarder to do but we ain't there yet(getting closer with bows though but thats all Legaignoux brothers though, not any manufacturers).

Well done dave. You just showed your maturity. How old are you? 10? 'Your mama' jokes went out ages ago dude...get over it.
Do you honestly believe that RRD designed a kite for Perth only? No, they designed it for kitesurfers who have access to waves around the world, slop or not. I was only pointing out that this was their second season with a depowering mechanism on their control systems so they would have worked some of the flaws out with their system.
Designers start somewhere and with a few years under the belt they know a bit more than you and I, dave. You have to have a plan (or design) before you even start manufacturing a prototype...i.e. trial and error means having a plan.
Yeah Brownee, heaps of work to do...but as you said, what would I know?

Apparently one of the 2006 RRD kites will have an option of having two different bars: one for waves (push out to depower), one for freestyle. All will have the same bridle as RRD wave type I.
This will be the second season for the kite so the flaws with the bar and bridle system will have been addressed.
Not sure if the windrange compares to crossbow though. Anyone ridden both?
And it is a bit cheaper too!!!

Hello Chine,
According to your own figures, the Hellfish is the most expensive kite on your list.
But then again, it's not in production, so it's not really an issue is it?
So what was your point again?

Now let's go through what you've said...quote:
"There isn't much science that goes into making these kites."
Only the basic science of physic's... Now you could get caught up in either Bernoulis theory or the Cowanda Principle

So you know them all do you ? I know two degsigners with a combined time in the industry more than your age Carbine !, One of them has degree's up the waarzoo from "MIT", he designs Monkeykites and the other is our own Peter Steiwe with a truck load of design expience in many sailing applications.

"Don't kid your self that there are "R&D teams".
Yeah thats why all of the brands have designers on fulltime salarys and producing gear for the top riders to test all year round !

Well your putting your knowledge of the kiting industry out there for everone to see and making some pretty big claims and you dont even appear to know the bsic of how & why a pulley bar was created ?... Oh yeah by the way I've been riding pulley bars for ooh two may be three years including every other bar we have for sale @ bestkiteboarding...

Arh... pretty much all of them !

Thats just childish mate !

Physic's, aerodynamic's, practical knowledge to name a few area invloved !

Thats a bold claim...

That's not what he said... He was talking about the bar !
quote:The majority of people aren't even close to these guys, I admit I'm **** but don't pretend to be anything else. Most people aren't able to travel for hours to get to a place with waves and wind. Not to many people are going to invest $1500+ on a kite they will rarely use or sacrifice performance for the other 95% of the time they use it. WA has some of the best winds and waves in the world and we rarely get great conditions. I doubt the rest of the world does either.quote:

Tell that to Jake, Ry, Carl, Aron, Ben and the rest of the boys who have ridden some of he most heavyiest wave in kiting to date in WA !

I don't think the bows are going to be that refined atm. A chinese knockoff might fly alright.
what do you reckon hunglong?
I really doubt they would have lodged australia under their pct patent application
