I didn't end up doing my epic downwinder either.
The only time it got windy enough to inflate my kite on my week long holiday was the afternoon before an incoming storm on Pebbly beach in the Yuraygir National Park. Google map link:

Just about all of the campers at the site (about 25 of em) came down to the beach to watch me in action, a couple of them were from regional QLD and have never actually seen kitesurfing in real life before so they thought it was a real treat.
Anyway, storm came in that night and dumped about 150mm of rain in the space of a few hours. Woke up the next morning and half of the campground was ankle deep in water. People's tents were under water, chaos everywhere, but good spirits. The hairiest bit was that to get into this campsite you need to drive along a beach and then cross through a tidal creek at low tide. So after the storm this creek was up to my nuts deep and flowing fast and we wanted to leave that day, as did about 10 other vehicles. Just had to tarp up the front grille and power on through with water half way up the doors and the bow wave washing up to the windshield - and we all made it through sweet.
Good times :)
