It was in the paper today but not much news other than he was from Yamba and had suspected spinal and internal injuries. In a serious but stable condition at John Hunter Hospital.
Ive kited soldiers a couple of times and it has never been great. Very gusty in a northeasterly and too onshore in a southerly for my liking. The rips are ferocious too and if you get in trouble out there theres no easy way in to shore either. As you say there are pretty awesome beaches either side for all wind directions and heaps of space and no cliffs. I can only presume he thought it looked like a great set up on Google maps (which is why I've tried it a couple of times) and unfortunately got into trouble in a gust.

His names Pete he set up his kite to close to the cliff and a gust lofted him into a huge bolder and dragged him over it and onto another rock on the other side and woke up being air lifted out. He's ok was out a day lafter with two broken ribs lots of bruising and some chipped teeth and lots of abrasions. And in true kite obsessive disorder was kiting a couple of days later
