Anyone keen on doing a downwinder from Coffs to Valla tomorrow? ( Saturday 5th)

Did Coffs to Valla one on the 27th December. Took 3 hours and 16 minutes but we were not trying to do it quickly. Did South West Rocks to Crescent Head on the 31st but forgot to buy ziplock bags so I couldn't take my phone with me so do not know what the stats are.

On the first trip I recorded it on Navionics which has a really cool feature which allows you to play back your route. Going back over it I can see where I dropped my board etc..

The Coffs Valla trip was more enjoyable. Tacking out around Hat Head was spooky to say the least. Very rough at the point where there must be a convergence of currents and then nowhere to land a kite for about three k's because of steep rocks. Then there is the problem of really gusty wind for about three k's south of the promontory. The rest of the run was really great though.

Kudos for the navigation of hat head.. That's a spot where I wouldn't want to be caught in the wind shadow or body dragging around looking for my board in deep water. Wild ocean conditions with big wild life and no easy way out of the water.

You're right about the wild ocean. As we turned around the point the sea got really rough for about five hundred meters. There must be a current convergence there.

I get paranoid in siuations like this because if the wild life. Did a downwinder from Wreck Rock to Agnes water a few years back and dropped my board. Seemed like half an hour before I got it back and for every second I was conscious of the fact that I was trolling for tiger sharks!
