Hello

Am fairly new to kiting, and NSW kiting conditions. Seeking opinions on what is the most universal kite size to get, for around Sydney (understand Ramsgate and Collaroy may be the better places for novices).

I was told that with depower, a kite can move a size or so, and thus a good strategy is to get 2 kites that skip a size, eg a 9 and a 12 - though would be good to start with one kite. Would prefer to err a bit on the larger size if need be.

Thanks in advance for your views!

I am 83 kg and own a Griffin TRX 2012-2013 10 meters and a 14 meters. I am set in almost any situation. You can't just get an universal size...

I am very happy with them. And the support is always there, if you need anything, Chris is super helpful. Especially if you are not happy with the kites.

If you are new i DO NOT suggest you go ride at the beach as there are so many obstacles for you to be aware of so for learning try places like as botany bay south of the novotel another place to have your training wheels on is dolls point also re kites i suggest you go demo a few 1st to see what you like as wave kites are different from freestyle also i highly recommend that you DO NOT BUY NEW as you will crash and destroy your 1st kites griffin kites are local kites however there are so many different types out there just try before you buy hope this helps

try a 17m for collaroy and a 9m for ramsgate.

the conditions vary a lot on that stretch of coast.

windier the further south you go.

joyrider - wow, thats quite a range

upsidedowner - thanks, will start with demo'ing kites. is this essentially day-renting them? would you do it from kiting schools, or directly from manufacturers such as Griffin? and where would you best buy used ones from? appreciate the advice.

hey stone fish just get a lesson if you dont know what kite sizes relate to what conditions. you will be a danger to yourself and others around you.
if you get a lesson you can learn safely and get advice from a instructor and they can probably find good secound hand deals for you as well.
would you buy a sports bike not knowing how to ride and teach your self on the main street of town at rush hour ???
