Hi there

I am a beginner and assume that Windang is a better spot for kitesurfing than Sandon Point for me. However, an experienced local surfer in Thirroul said the opposite.

He have seen several kiters at Sandon Point. Is it a good spot for kitesurfing, and for which rider levels? Any particular local 'rules' or things one should be aware of when kiting there? Why, or why not, is Sandon Point a good kitesurfing spot for a beginner?

Appreciate all replies

Would stay away from the right off sandon point im positive local surfers wouldnt appreciate u out and about around there learning maybe he was talking about peggies the next point around. Theres plenty nice beaches to learn around town instead of playing around the reefs of Bulli.

In a strong southerly to South Easter "Peggie's" is the spot. (High tide( Southern point to Sandon point.))
Sandon pt can be ridden in a southerly no problems though usually when it is above 25knots. Due to the grommets still surfing Sandon pt in the lighter southerlies.

Sandon pt lefts in a nor'easter is do-able and a nice wave can come through in larger swell. In summer wait until the flags come down after 5:30pm.

Winding in a nor'easter would be easier to learn in summer in the surf (less swell) due to the protection of the island from northerly swell.
