Hi Byron local kiters,

I am in your town now on holidays. I have a 8m, 11m & 14m with me and a wave twin tip. The wind was good today and I only saw 1 guy out near broken head on a 9m bws kite. The swell there was probably a bit above my pay grade seeing him in over head high waves and couldn't see him when he was out the back because the waves were too big. I went and had a look at broken head surf break and it would have been perfect for me but I'm pretty sure the 50+ surfers out there would have had something to say about me pumping up.

Is there anyone kiting around the area over the next week that I might be able to meet who can show me some kiteable places? If you get back to me with local place names remember I'm from that cold place down south so I won't know any of the places by name.
Thanks in advance.

Hey Dan,

I'm also here for the week from Vic, bought a 10-15m and sb and TT. I'd been keen to hit up some spots with you if the wind picks up. Although my boards made it to byron my kites got lost somewhere... should have them tomorrow lol.

Definitely keen mate, had a surf yesterday but haven't pulled the kites out in over a week. Got a new harness and having warm water nearby is making me edgy to pump up! If the wind gets up I'll get in touch or you do the same.

Hey brohan, just found a spot with about 4-5 kiters out called sharps beach. In between skenners head and ballina.
Swell was just a bit above my pay grade unfortunately! I guess it's better to know your limits than to make the news for the wrong reasons!

Hey mate, Thursday/Friday looks like there may be enough wind for my 15 and I am thinking of going to the pass (don't exactly know where that is lol), cheers for the info and will keep you posted.

I hope your right about Thursday and Friday!
The pass is basically at the bottom of the lighthouse on the main beach (town) side of the lighthouse. I'd be keen on that if the wind is right!

Hey Brohan, the wind is looking ideal for tomorrow arvo! Thinks it's either the pass or belongi depending on the direction when it arrives. You still keen?

Yes I saw a local liter and asked him a few questions, I'm thinking of going to the pass tomorrow as it's just around the corner, but let me know I'm happy to do whatever just to get out!

I went for a kite today at the pass, wind was light but had 2-3 runs, tomorrow's looking good.

Happy to try the pass, I'm staying at a caravan park near the shipwreck so it's no far for me either. I kited yesterday at belongil and the wind would have been perfect in Victoria for my 11m but then I remembered a mate who just got back from Zanzibar saying the warmer winds don't pack as much grunt! He was dead right.....I put up my 14 meter kite and couldn't even get more than a run under my belt. It was really surprising how much less push there was in the warm wind. Either way, I'm hanging for a kite and will check out the pass during the day and in the arvo. If the wind is up I'll be out!!!

Hey guys,

I'm heading down to Byron this weekend. Apparently they forecast some south SSE wind on Saturday. Is there any good spot for this wind direction?
Anyone heading the beach on Saturday?

Cheers

Hey guys

A Brissy kiter here.
I'm heading down to Byron for the weekend, looks like there will be a pumping northerly on Saturday
Never kited at Byron, and been researching where to, local rules etc.
Will the Pass and Belongi be the best options?
Also, I heard somewhere that to kite Byron beaches you need $10,000,000 public liability insurance for land and water, eg. AKSA (Australian Kite Surf Association) or IKO membership compulsory. Tag must be displayed on harness. Is this correct??

Thanks in advance
