Hey everyone. It was a dream to live somewhere with good kiting and I just accepted a job in Sydney!

I'm arriving in October from Canada. I'm primarily focusing on wakestyle stuff..kickers..trying to ride like christophe tack! I'll be living out near Penrith, close to UWS, and I see there is an amazing cable out there so I'll definitely be sessioning that a lot, especially during winter months when the wind is more or less off?.

I see NSW KBA has good info on spots (all the good flatwater is to the north of the city?) How steady is the wind during the summer months? Whats winter wind like? The reason is, I'm thinking of buying some RPMs to replace my Fuels..mainly cause its gusty here where I live in Ontario (all storm front kiting) and I think that extra range for the gusts might give me a bigger sweetspot when unhooking and popping. But if the wind isn't too gusty in Sydney I might just keep them...dunno

Cheers!

Bro! Another Ontario boy here. I live in Sydney (Surry Hills). Ride wakestyle as well.. kite Botany Bay as it is the windiest place in the city. Also ride the cable in Penrith every week. It's windy in the summer.. some weeks 3 days some weeks all seven. Depends really. We have a good crew down here at Kitepower in Botany so stop in and say hi and week can hook up to ride as well!

Hey Crazy Canook,
I grew up in Ontario too, met Drury (Elliot) a couple years ago when he came to Sydney to work at the local shop. You will love it here, I've been here since 2000 and kited since 2001. I dabble with the wake style when i need a change from the surf or when conditions suit. We have a good crew here and kite quite often especially in the summer months. You'll have a bit of a trek from Penrith to the water but at least you will be near the cable park. There is alway talk and plans about getting some features out in the water but nothing has happened yet as its a lot of effort. Summer winds start as early as october and blow till around march. they are very consistent as we get a thermal Noreaster and southerly changes. Winter winds have a westerly aspect so its usually at Kurnell (hour and half+ from Penrith) and usually pretty gusty but you can still get wet once or week. Southerlies still blow in winter but having a bit of west so Cronulla- Wanda is good but bit up and down and it gets smoother as you ride north up by boat harbour. As far as your kites goes, hold until your fuels till you get here and give them a go. Shop rider Shawn from UK uses fuels and kills it wake style, and if you want to try rpms in the Sydney wind, the KP shop will have demos on the beach or you can demo rpms whenever it suits you.
See you in October. Rich
