I was in Botany bay a couple hours ago, and I lost my board (got off my feet and couldn't body drag to it.. couldn't even come to the beach and try again 'cause I was pretty offshore).. bodydragged back to the beach, started packin'up angrily (it was the first time using that board, and I already lost it!!), but as soon I started walking along the beach, looking for the board, a fellow kiter came to give me his support (like suggesting to put it in the lost & found here), 3 seconds later, a man tells me that another guy rescued my board, and 1 minute later, he hands it over to me!!!!

I'm really not used to find people so kind and honest! It's amazing!!

Thanks a lot to Ian (the rescuer), Yuri (or Juri) and Pierpaolo who gave me some advice and helped me launch the kite, and to the stranger walking by who indicated me Ian! Thank you guys!!

Marvellous scenes

I lost a board back in Cape Town a cpl of years back on it's 2nd outing- lovely shiny Nobile T5 I felt sick.

Turned up several weeks later on Gumtree. A sailor had found it 12 nautical miles offshore bobbing about all on it's lonesome. I knew it was mine, and so did he coz I described a couple of very specific features. After getting a case of beer lined up for him as a big "thanks", cheeky twonk demanded R3500 for it's return!

Told him to feck orf, claimed the board on insurance and replaced with a Nobile NHP

I'm a firm believer in something as simple as putting your cell number on the board in permanent marker will vastly increase your chances of being re-united with your board should it get lost. Such as simple thing to do.....

It wasn't here- it was my South African home contents insurer when I was living there. I had my boards and kites all covered under the household contents inc away from home in case my car got ripped-off whilst parked-up at the beach (increasingly common at some of the kite beaches over there).

Have to say, I was pleasantly suprised when I told the absolute truth to them not expecting much joy. Told them I lost my board at sea, and they told me no problem- get a quote for a new one and we'll pay you out

Yeah glad to see the great kitesurfing spirit still going strong even with so many kiters!

Last Friday arvo was kinda epic with heaps of people on the water including lots of not-very-confident-new-starters and kitelooping-1m-from-the-beach-show-off (well, I'll admit I've done that too, but not when it's so crowded).

So within 3 hours got tangled twice, then snapped my leash and won the swimming race against my kite thanks to someone dragging me down wind and another grabbing my kite (sorry forgot your names but thanks again guys, what a workout!) and as soon as I was back in the air half-way to Dolls with back and front lines tangled I went to save this brasilian dude whose bar decided to ditch the stopper ball and fly away!

Fortunately no gear nor human damage, and clearly the best way to start the week-end with a great wetsuit-free sunset session!
