There is a place called Shark Bay in Illuka, about 10km off the main rd. It has a bit of a reef that juts out and cuts the swell. It is open to SE and NE winds. Launching and Landing are ok just watch out for all the drift wood on the beach . Jason

Can you give a little more direction on how to find Shark Bay?
Any other sugestions flat or waves between Coffs and Byron? Anything near a camp ground would be bonus!

cheers Mike

Ballina River, there is a camping site (one with caravans and that, not open nature reserve type) near the sailing club/boat ramp/waterslide

Just watch out kiting in the Ballina river, really need to know what your doing esp with the runout tide its super quick and it only works in ENE winds, NE tends to super gusty and blows over the Football ground so you really need heaps of E-pretty much blowing down the guts of the river mouth. Had a mate one day get picked up off the spit, thrown over the rocks then gliding over the f******* road nearly in the camp ground....and he rips-can happen to anyone!!!

But none the less it can be great fun on the right day!!

p.s never kite on the massive sandbank inside the bridge, gusts are incredible in there lol
