Hi all, moving to castle Hill in Sydney for work, and wanting to know where to go kite surfing and how long to get there. I don't know Sydney at all,so any help would be great. Cheers Wade

I lived in glen haven (right next to castle hill) a few years ago. I used to go down to Brighton le sands (Botany Bay) mostly, it took about 50 minutes usually, but could be over an hour if traffic was bad/ peak hour.
I occasionally went to northern beaches- but mainly just for surfing... It takes maybe 40 mins to narrabeen if you know you're way through Hornsby, otherwise you can add about 10-15 mins to that trip.
Also the quickest way to Botany Bay will cost you a lot in tolls (M2 and harbour tunnel).

Here are my recommendations:
Moving up the coast from Kurnell ...
1. NE/NW Kurnell: Kurnell seems to get the NE before any other spot in Sydney. It does get very choppy if it really blows but it is fun. Great Winter Spot when NW. 1 to 1.5 hours to get there.
2a. NE Dolls Point: NE and may SW .... does get massively choppy if tide is running the wrong way against the wind. 1 to 1.25 hours to get there
2b. NE/E/SE Brighton (car park 3): Fun spot close to the city of Sydney if you want a summer afternoon run after work. 1 to 1.25 hours to get there
3. SE Sandringham at the Skiff Club: Wind blows really nicely all the way from Cronulla down and really nice funnel. Pretty cool spot and smooth! 1 to 1.25 hours to get there
4. NE Narrabeen Boat Harbour (long reef): South most end of Narrabeen has a really nice little harbour that is mostly protected from waves. Fun Spot which will allow you to get out to Long Reef. 1 to 1.25 hours to get there
5. NE/E/SE Narrabeen SLSC: 50 metres north of the Surf Life Saving Club, great surf/ocean location. Plenty of great kiters there to learn from. 1 to 1.25 hours to get there
6. SE/SWS Umina: Awesome protected ocean/surf spot .... I rate it the best SE spot that I have been to so far. The little waves are great to learn on. 1 to 1.25 hours to get there
7. SW/NW Picnic Point Entrance: Very onshore launch location, so you need to be able to body drag out before launch, but has huge flat water areas. 1.5 hours to get there.
8. NE Norah Head: Protected ocean/surf spot .... Rock reef provides a good launch spot with mostly flat water when the tide is low. Easy to kite into the surf. 1.5 hours to get there.
9. NE Salts Bay - Swansea Channel: Best flat water NE location I have tried. Very Very Flat!!!! 1.5 hours to get there.
10. SW/W Swansea Co-op: Best SW spot I have tried, about 500 metres by 500 metre worth of 1 to 2 foot deep water. Very smooth!!! Great Winter Spot.1.5 hours to get there.
11. NW Squids Ink Belmont: Best NW spot I have tried, about 300 metres by 300 metre worth of 1 to 2 foot deep water. Very smooth!!! Great Winter Spot. 1.5 hours to get there.
12. NE Redhead Beach/Blacksmith Beach: Great surf spot or downwinder (14k's worth).
13. SE Marmong: Mostly flat lake area with huge 500 metre runs can get choppy (but not like Kurnell/Botany Bay)
14. NE/SE Nobbies Beach: Protected ocean/surf spot .... Rock reef provides a good launch spot with mostly flat water when the tide is low. Easy to kite into the surf. 2 hours to get there
That's everything I have kited at in the last eight months.
Winners are: Squids and Co-op for winter kiting SW/W/NW, Salts Bay Swansea for summer NE, Umina for SE.
