Hiya,
As above, if anyone has a full starters kit available, or can point me in the right direction?
No schools or instructors up here so I'm going to have to teach myself, but Cable Beach is veerryy long so I'm hoping.

Hi Johny
Keep reading the forums here, I would not advise teaching yourself, there are plenty MAJOR injuries and even deaths resulted from kite surfing.
The way I see it, you have 3 options:
1) Do a trip with one of the kite schools going on surfari or go on holiday to a location that has an all inclusive "kite Camp"
2) keep an eye out for kite trips advertised coming to your area.
3) take a punt and do a trip to somewhere they have a kite school and hope you have wind (summer is better most places)

At the very least, find a kite surfer in your area you can chat to about learning options, kite size, local places to kite etc. Maybe try "the hookup" forum on this site.

Please don't kill yourself.

And if you find a local kiter and they have been doing it for a while you could always swap beer for lessons.

I am only a beginner and live in broome been kiting for about 8 months now. First thing first def catch up with some of the kiters down town beach in the mornings you'll definitely see some kites out there. Problem if you get a kite it's probably not recommended to learn on town beach cos to be honest it's probably the worst place to learn anywhere, in fact probably the worst place to launch so techniquely when I go out I run a big risk of stacking my kite on the rock wall or in the mangroves or worst on the beach where everyone is (tourist). So just make sure to you to the right person and knows what he's talking about and he'll probably say what I just said. Secondly it's probably better to travel and get lessons safest option or wait til wet season when the westlies blow and learn on Cablebeach (ganthieum point) and s slab to one of the more
Expierence kiter and I'm sure someone will help I hope this helps

Yep, I agree with Glo, when you're learning, get another kiter to help you launch. Explain to him/her that you're still learning and would appreciate their guidance/confirmation on when you should stand etc. There's certainly no shame in that, and it will be the launcher left to gather your kite if it doesn't launch properly, so it's in their interest.

Hey Johny, couple slabs for training and advice would not be wasted, great idea to get pointers from an experienced kiter at the very least. I still recommend lessons from a trained instructor if possible.
Check out the post in the general section about a Canadian kiter who died a couple days ago. May he RIP, our thoughts go to his family and friends.

Just to pick up on gateman's point, you should def. do an 'official' lesson with an instructor. They should cover most if not all of the below points:

http://www.ikointl.com/iko.php?page=discovery-kiteboarder-program.php¤t_menu_area=30
www.ikointl.com/iko.php?page=intermediate-kiteboarder-program.php¤t_menu_area=30

In terms of importance... I would not recommend anyone going out by themselves if they can't at the very least do a self rescue (on the water), body drag up wind, know how to activate the quick release, and be given a full run down of the other safety features.

Perhaps you could book a little trip down to Perth or somewhere with lessons just to cover the basics. It's really not something you can teach yourself without the safety basics... just my tuppence worth...
