I had 2 of these kites a 14m and a 17 m .I did try and fly them on a 1:1 bar and had no success.they turn way to slow on this setting ,if you think about it the pulley bar is actually set up as 1:2 ,which means if you pull the bar in 1 inch the back lines pull in 2 inches ,which is why when you set it up 1:1 it turns a hell of a lot slower ,essentially you have to pull the bar in twice as far to achieve the same effect you would need a bar twice as long!, the only benifit is the bar pressure is lighter but it turns like a pig.they turn alot better with the 1:2 bar but the bar pressure is horrific. I believe there was a bridle modification you can do to make them 1:1 but I could never find a successful mod.
Also found the 17m flew nicer on 30m lines but the 14 was bloody horrible on the longer lines.
The safety system on these kites is ordinary to say the least . I use to run suicide or if it was sketchy (I had a moded depower system ,more or less a cleat system the same as a north , those straps are crap ) and I use to attach the safety leash to the end of the depower rope ,if you pulled the safety if would pull so much depower on the kite would fall out of the sky. Not the best but it seemed to do the job , never felt 100% safe on those kites like I did on the 5th line norths.
Ahh, not a bad idea with the depower strap. I know it was bloody slow but not unmanageable, albeit much preferred over horrendous bar pressure. Trying to work out downsides as I'm considering running 27m lines in a modern bar with conventional safety etc...
The only downside I would imagine is that the depower throw is now halved as well?!
