Sorry.. Another noobs question..

Look like i'll be kiting more often at Botany Bay / Dolls Point. When i look at the chart www.seabreeze.com.au/weather/nsw/sydney
Which one out of those three do I focus on?

I understand above is the historical data. 'm guessing the pro use it along with the actual forecast below to 'predict' if it's worth going to there.

And if I remember correct, for Dolls point, i need NE or SE wind for the ideal wind?

Hi xonline
For the Bay I focus on the Airport and Kurnell also see what its blowing at Cronulla
Your right about the winds for Dolls. It is also worth looking at the tides, Dolls is very tided effected
NE you want a falling tide. SE a rising tide
The spots on the Grand parade are the least tide effected Kurnell does feel the tide but not as bad as dolls

The tide at dolls is about 5 knots, so it's significant. If the tide is right, you can kite there in 10 knots. That's why I love it there.

Kernel - NW to NE, a good learners spot, very choppy, helpful locals
Sandringham - (near sailing club) Only ever kited there in a SE breeze, very smooth
Dolls Point - Only ever kited here in a NE breeze, very choppy, helpful locals
Brighton CP3/CP2/CP1 - Only ever kited there in a NE to E breezes (SE should work)

Just adding to this
Kurnell - learners should stay out of the first groyne (eastern most)
rock groynes are known to eat kites
sharp stuff on the sea floor (oyster shell, sea urchins)
Straight northerly is dangerous

Sandringham
dead on shore in a southerly so can be congested

Dolls very tidal and potential for loss of board is high

Brighton lots of newbees, many not too sure of the road rules

How come nobody ever recommends north Wanda / Greenhills? Works well in a NE or SE. Only ever see a couple of other kiters hitting it, along with a couple of pole dancers...

Good point. Wanda is shadowed in close in a NE'er. SE is fun but bumpy. Some people like it. Questions are usually from newbees and it is not recommended as a newbee spot.

Another good source of wind, tide and wave data for the Bay is the Sydney Ports site - http://wavewindtide.portauthoritynsw.com.au/default. They have just updated the site and the data is live with recent history too. The wind strength and direction instrument at Molyneaux Point at the end of the wall is a good source as it is not shadowed by buildings or geography. Dolls is usually a few knots less than indicated in a nor'easter or northerly, but pretty close in a southerly, sw or se. It is also the most tide affected as already pointed out.
