Hi. Just Bren wondering if the newer 2008+ SS Fuel kites relaunch any easier than the early y2k models?
I might have just flown them in a little too weak wind to get em up easily but struggled big time with them at the time. since have gone to SLE kites but loved the pull of the C

09+ with the cut away leading edges are a bitch to relaunch in light winds without a 5th line but pop up fine once there is decent wind. the 08 and earlier models are almost impossible to relaunch without a 5th line

ive seen the 09+ relaunch easier and quicker than switchblades in light wind. all about your technique i think.

'09 & '10 relaunch well as long as there is enough wind to ride. Reverse launch OK too off water. '11 should be the same.

'07 & '08 shipped with 5th line as standard and easy with 5th once you know the technique.

All easier than '03, '04 etc.

and without a 5th line ......... take 3-5 quick strokes towards the kite and let the lines slack and the kite will roll onto its back ...then just use an outside line to pull the kite onto a wingtip.....

I took the 5th lines off my 05 & 07 fuels and relaunch like this in light winds, ( or sometimes reverse launch )

this method even works with SB's in very light wind where the kite just doesnt want to move from the leading edge down position. Particularly useful when kiting behind rock walls or groynes or large sandbars with wind shadows.... or those majic days and locations that have 5knots on the water but 25knots 10m up.

have had fuel and octanes since 06 they are set up to launch off the fifth line as it halves the wing distance and they drag the other half of the kite to the edge of launching window. older 4 line( started with 13 metre diesel) uses the full width of the canopy were bitches for most things including launch.

I still think that the one line set up was very practical and allows you to Depower (flatten profile and increase top wind range) and cleat fifth line on the water, and are much easier to re launch even if leading edge pressure is low.
reverse launches in really light wind much harder to impossible without fifth.
the new rally, good to self launch and land , trucks much higher into the wind more stable than my old fuel but the power is not the same its all techique apparently
