Hey all, just starting up kiteboarding and am quiet excited, got out for first lesson last week and have another this sunday.
Am looking at buying a kite to practice on the beach with just to become comfortable and am unsure about what type or size, from reading forums and talking to people i've gathered that a delta style kite would be best suited but other than that i don't have much idea...

Any advice or tips would be great!

Cheers

good kite to learn on would be a trainer kite first. ozone imps i think they are called and a 1 or 2m one would do fine. Kitepower sell them. A great all round beginner kite would be a cabrinha switchblade. depending on your weight would also depend on what size you get, ask around down at your local.

a 9m or 10m would be ok for you i think if you kite in victoria, lots of people learn on them for a reason, because they are great beginners kites.

Are you looking new or used? If you want a new kite check out the Ozone Catalyst. Superb construction, easy handling and great price.

Cab Switchblade is not just beginners, Keahi won the mens open on a Switchie and Marine also won thew womens open on a switchie.

We have some used Ozone Catalysts and also used 2011 ex school Cabrinha switchblades, call the Sydney store on 02 9529 6894

Also Rob Douglas gained his "Fastest Sailor in the World" title on a Cab Switchblade

Kayne, you will find some really funny "Cabs in trees" humour in the posts on Seabreeze. I personally enjoy the wit and black humour.

Unfortunately it also also brings out the Brand Bashers who seem bent on degrading Cabrinhas. The champions above never seem to get mentioned in the the Brand Bashing comments

We have 3 beginner/learners in my family, all now have Switchblades.
Robust, consistent and safe when used correctly. We have had other (older kites) with mixed results.

There are plenty of other excellent kites out there for your situation, as shown in the above comments.

* Visit your local kite beaches frequently & take note of the kites being used.
* Buy the most recent model, appropriate kite you can afford!
* Have fun with the sport.

Cheers
