Hello all! Ive just started learning the kite and still haven't introduced the board as yet. As Im starting to learn about wind direction as well as getting educated on how to get up, turns, changing direction etc.
One thing has become clear to me! In summer majority of the time the wind comes from the South, meaning my first ever experience introducing the board i will be trying to get up with my non preferred foot at the back!(switch)

I apologies for the terms "goofy and switch" as it doesn't seem to apply in kite boarding but i come from a skateboard/wake board background and that's the only way i know how describe it.
Ive done some study and a lot of people say spend sometime on your skateboard/snowboard/wake board riding switch.

What Im wanting to know is has anyone else been in the same situation as myself and how was your experience?
Also how did you go advancing to tricks and lastly being "goofy rider" does this give me an advantage or disadvantage in terms of learning the wonderful sport? eg: im assuming riding upwind will feel more comfortable.

thanks guys and girls

You're not alone Bryfly. Everyone has a preferred side. Initially, you'll get going just fine in one direction but struggle in the other. All it takes is practice.
If you would feel more comfortable starting on your "good side" you could body drag with your board out a bit, like 50m (a necessary skill in itself) and then head back towards the beach.

Also, we all understand the terms "goofy" and "natural" footer, especially if you come from a surfing background.

Every kiter at the start had to build what we call "muscle memory" to learn to go both ways.

It will click, but you have to practice keeping your back foot (left leg if going RIGHT. right leg if going LEFT) bent as firm as you can to avoid that temptation to turn the board around into your "natural" stance or when you're facing the ocean (like surfing)

Anyway, don't analyse it too much. It will come. Just keep going out and having fun.

tip: your "back" foot is your rudder or control of the board and look where you want to go. Don't look at the kite so much. Eventually you should not be looking at the kite at all.
