I want to play in 20 to 30 knots , can anyone recommend an appropriate kite size for a 95 kg guy to kite these winds with a modicum of safety ? Cheers .

Hi mate, I'm 90kgs and it was mid to high 20's today and I used an 8m switchblade which worked well for my weight. I think the make and model will make a big difference though. Keep watching for more experienced replies than mine!

Thanks for the input ,I have been looking at a 9 m switchy , but I am worried it might be too much sail for the top end of the 20 plus scale. Obviously I have never kited over 22knots!

Your ability to kill the power ie edging is as important as kite size, also brand and model of kite, some kites completely depower others still maintain drive even when fully de powered at trim and bar, something like a catalyst or neo will deliver drive but instant depower if you feel threatened, the are plenty of models just these spring to mind, you'll find you'll be under done on an 8 at 95kgs at 20knts,

Riding a 14m vector in flat water sounds like ur already in the frolicing arena

Spend more time on ur 14 in the same wind range uve been learning - or shoot for an 11m vector if u cant help urself.

Well at 83kg I can frolic with 10m 20-25 sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. 25-30 balls to the wall.
8m 20-25 a tad boring 25-30 sweet. 30-35 BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST.

But I can edge like a motherfarker and love the challenge of gusty wind.

9m might be the go at your number of pies.....

On a side note. Your average kite has a 5knot sweet spot. Bellow or above that yourl be under or overgunned,

I'm 95 KG's I ride a 9m 2014 c4 in 20 to 30 knots no worries at all. You'd get away with mid to high 30's if you have your edging down.

I'd say a 9m, and try to ease yourself into the high winds thing. You'll find kiting at 30 knots quite a bit different to 22 knots.

Maybe aim for a few sessions at 25 knots and gradually work yourself upwards.

Beginner weighing in at 95kegs, a 9m and a twinnie in FNQ wind which isnt dense wind - reckon u'll wish for an 11 in no time.

How long have you been kiting for again and can do pull off basic things such as backrolls, self land/launch and Self rescue??

If you have answered No to any of the above then your not ready for "high wind frolics" as you put it.

A beginner in 25-30knots solid breeze will need a medicare card!

NoBS is right you know
it is never about the gear, imagine if you will
a post titled "I wanna frolic an unhooked backroll transition with a down loop"
so Chris is on the ball, if you wanna frolic you have to learn the dance
still sounds a little gender undefined
