Hello all, I'm as new to kiting as you can get, had no lessons and have no idea. Next summer when lessons start up again in Perth i've lined myself up to get started, in the mean time I am going to buy some gear pref second hand stuff. My question is what should I be looking at in terms of kites and board/s, my ultimate aim is to get into the surf as I live on the coast and have surfed for the past 20 odd years and have had enough of 'no surf' summers.I wiegh 100kg and am pretty active.

Save your money till next year. just go and get yourself a trainer kite and practice your kite skills till you get lessons. No use in rushing off to get second hand gear if you cant use it.

Get your self a trainer and practise with it..
Then grab a lesson and they'll help advise on kite style and size for your skill level.
Then grab some gear it will be another year gear scond hand gear will be easy to come by and cheaper for the same kite you'd be buying now..
Take care and don't go to hard to early :)

Thanks for the advise, I'll grab a trainer and read what I can find. It looks like its an awesome sport to get into and I'm looking forward to it.

You are on the right path. 2 things to remember:
1) You need lessons to start with (except for a training kite)
2) Lessons include the use (and abuse) of the instructors kite and gear, so there is no need to buy gear now.
Get that far and you will be in a MUCH better position to then know what sort of gear you need and where best to get it.
