Im just getting into jumping and can land about 50% and ride off when going goofy foot. Especially if i take it nice and easy, if I crank on it it gets a bitt messy but still fun.

However when i go natural stance, or my un natural stance I suck? I can get up in the air but just seem to over shoot the kite, it ends up way behind me, to the right of me as Im heading left, or way over head like ive pendulum-ed underneath it in the direction of the wind???

What causes this?? I seemed to be able to jump the other direction straight up??

On another note, I love the sound the kite makes when heading and edging to the right, then crank down on the left hand and get the lift. That sound the kite makes is awesome!!! The whoosh or whatever. Sorry end stoked rant!!! :)

Judging by your avatar, it looks like you have come from a surfing background riding goofy stance all of ur surfing life, so attempting any jumps/tricks riding in the goofy direction (right foot forward) will naturally feel easier. The key is practice and persistence trying to do the same tricks riding the opposite direction. Next time u go out spend the whole session trying to do your jumps natural stance, it will eventually click. When learning new tricks I always make sure i can complete the same trick going in both directions before attempting to learn a new one and yes it is always easier one way than the other so practice more on ur weaker side.

On ur other note, wait till u start looping the kite

BIG whooshes yeeeew!

Cheers Gilly and yes thats the problem.

But what am i doing wrong? What causes me to end up with the kite in that position so far over head up wind of me??

Am i going left, turning the kite back to the right, getting the lift and then not turning it back to the left?? Or is it an edging direction problem with the board???I would really like to have something in my mind to try next time I go back out.

You're swinging under the kite? Is it front-stalling out of the sky behind you?

Without seeing a vid; you might be releasing your edge when the kite is still traveling up, so you swing downwind under it; the kite is pulling you downwind more than it's pulling you up. Releasing too soon, or not edging upwind aggressively enough - jumping up off a flat board will do it too.

You on TT or directional?

Watching vids helped me... the second one, especially: the key points were once you've sent the kite back to 1 o'clock, LEAVE it there. Bringing it forward to 12 means it stays "behind" you but is directly up... redirect (later than you think initially) for a butter soft landing.

I had the same problem (but reverse direction to you). I had to build confidence by doing simple small jumps and off the lips but not actually moving the kite higher than 10 or 11. The kite was basically parked but fully powered and I just simply did a few boosts (quick upwind kick and lift). Once I got going higher and higher then I powered the kite up to zenith to get max lift and all it took was not so much kite control but looking "ahead" to where you're going to land. Let the kite do it's thing (just don't power dive it in mid air!).

If the waters not flat, the waves can mess with your take-off too - depending on the seasonal wind and wave directions, I just better on my goofy side than my natural

Load n' pop... good thing to perfect before sending the kite...

Yeah but make sure you have a large enough kite and it's a depower kite. I've seen kids trying that on fixed bridle 4 mtr kites and their landings were like jumping off a 2nd storey building with lead boots! Ouch!
