Earlier in the season I witnessed an inexperienced newbie catching a kite for one of the long time regulars at my local. The newbie didn't grab the kite correctly and allowed the kite to fold backwards on itself. After struggling with it for a few seconds he finally got the LE pointing downward but before it got to the sand the LE split from front to back starting from a thread hole aligning with the point at which the kite was allowed to fold back on itself. Of course the bladder also disintergrated. Bin, open wallet, new kite.
The same scenario happened to me only a couple of weeks ago in fairly high winds. Fortunately my kite didn't self destruct, but I totally cringed at the sight.
I think the original poster has a good point and I would not be upset if everyone who caught my kite held it upside down and waited for me to turn it over. At least then responsibility for damage lies squarely with the owner.
You're local doesnt happen to be scarbs? You might be talking about me... I know i did the exact thing described about a month ago to someone there. Still really embarrassed about it (

) but thankfully no damage occurred. Of course i was 100% at fault at what i did, but the other side of the story is i was talking to someone i knew and all of a sudden with no signals or eye contact i had a kite right above my head! Always important not to make assumptions if people are ready so they dont feel rushed

I' having a hard time picturing how this can happen.
What does, 'fold backwards on itself', look like?
