What psi should you pump your kite to? Anothe kiter on the beach said I should be pumping my kite to at least 6 psi. Iv got a 11m SS octane and 6 psi seems like F-all.. Iv been pumping it to 10 psi and that seems to work?

Used to pump my octane to 8, along with my other slingshot kites. The rebel we have actually has a pressure to pump to, think its either 6 or 7.

How'd u know to pump it to 8? Just felt rock solid at 8?

8 feels good to me. Had a rev2 and used to pump it to 10psi but crashed it had one day on the water and popped the leading edge, now pump up to 8, crashed it hard a few times and never had that problem again.

Popped? Iv had the air outtake cap come off but never pop. Did u find on your octane that the air intake sometimes pops off when u crash it every now and then? Pain in the arse cos it very slowly deflates on ya

In my lessons i was shown that if you pump the kite and stand it on it's end as in ready to launch and it doesn't collapse then it's up enough.

Nar never had the valve pop open. Just looke at the octane user manual and it say to pump it up to 8psi (6psi in warmer climate). So that must be where I got the 8psi from.

Wow they really taught you that? I would of thought they would tell you to use a pressure gauge, not wait til your about to launch to find out if its pumped up or not...

I pump my slingshot rally to 8psi. This is the recommended pressure in average temperatures and there is a gauge on the pump to help get it right. Seems to work for me.

Um you check it well before you launch, you do have to turn the kite over you know which means it will be in that position anyway

Whatever works best for you, but a pressure gauge is a good investment

I have slingshots and pump all sizes to 9psi and never have problems. From 2011 they have a little plastic clamp that goes over the intake valve to stop it popping off. It must have been a common problem for them to add it. Just buy one of those then problem sorted.

9psi ey. yeah the valve shi ts me. like the outtake valve it has velcro all around the valve to hold it there and on the intake theres just a velcro tab on one side. il have to pop into the local and see if theyv got one of those clamps ur talking about

an old rule of thumb if you dont have a gauge, do the old flick halfway between the centre of the LE and wing-tip, if you get a sort of metallic twang your good to go.

I find the "ping" test to be quite arbitrary. It's quite hard to distinguish the difference between 5-6-7-8-9 PSI with the ping test as it'll sound roughly the same.

The most reliable test and applicable to any kites is the folding test. Try to fold your leading edge and if it's easy to fold = not enough pressure. If it's hard to bend, meaning have to use strong force to be able to bend it in half = good to go. You will also know that you're getting close because you start to feel resistance in your pump.

A lot people under pressure their kites and they all seem to be using "the old ping test"

That is way too soft. The kite will support itself on the beach but as soon as you load it up hard it will collapse. Try sending it hard through the window while edging hard with the bar pulled in.

PSI is irrelevant. The gauges on kite pumps are not even close to accurate. Just pump it up as hard as you can without extreme effort (ie. hard pumping with your arms. Not pushing down with your body weight.) Unless you're a gorilla there is no way you are going to burst your kite.

The "ping" test is ok. If it thuds it's too soft. If it pings and feels really hard when you squeeze it then it's ok.
