hello,

just ts looking for a bit of guidance. I'Ve started looking at kite surfboards. I have been riding TT but would like to try strapless boarding.
when looking at the boards I am not sure what size. I currently ride a 32 litres 6'0 board for surf above 3ft and a 35 litre 5'7 for the smaller stuff when surfing. I'm 83kegs and 6ft.
what sort of litres or size should I be looking at. I've seen some 5'4 boards Naish fone and 5'7 but just not sure what might be going to small.

cheers,

I would try the surfboards you already own.

I'm the same height and weigh 86kgs and ride a 5'8". I've got a 5"1' grom board I use in high winds and that's alright just feels a little small, the smaller the board the more kite you use so I guess it's just personal preference.

Cool, i thought i would need a smaller board than what i would be riding in the surf. I've been looking at some 2nd hand boards so might just have to trial and see.
Also appreciate the suggestion of using my existing surfboards. I don't necessarily want to trash my surfboards as they are a only a 4 ounce glass so don't imagine they would handle the extra punishment. I've also been told the epoxy boards handle the chop better.

It's pretty much trial & error until you find what's suits you & your local conditions. I've settled for having 2 boards just for kiting, obviously for high/low wind, try to demo a few boards to see what volume suites.

Or, have a quick run kiting on each of your SB,s & see what you prefer.

Researched it to death trying to find out what I should start with. In the end I was told that a good starting point is a board equal to one's height plus couple of inches, about 30 litres, and reasonably wide (19-20 in). Bought somethhing close to this description and it seems to work (learned to go strapless in chop, have not tried in real surf conditions yet). I am 100 kg 6 ft - wish I bought something with a bit more volume, need to be well powered up to use this board (perhaps my technique is not quite right). Think for 83 kg person what I have would be just right.
