Morning all. Went out yesterday second lesson. We spent 2 hours trying to get up on board. I can get up but I lose power and just fall back down. For the life of me I just couldn't figure it out and suggestions. Would be great :)

Hey, this is normal the first time you try to get up riding on the board,
it can be a few things, as mentioned above choking the kite, being underpowered, board too small, getting up and not edging (so no resistance in the lines) among loads of other factors.
Newbie - Lessons learnt so far... is a thread in this section. there is lots of info from a few noobs perspective. might be worth a read.
and
try catching up with some other kiters for a bit of direction when your down at the water. most people will give you a few tips
it wont be long and it will just click.

Exact same thing happened to me. When getting pulled up don't pull on the bar. Let the harness pull you up. Also point your board toward the lines of the kite to ensure you go down wind. Then as soon as you start plaining lean back and and put nearly all your weight in back for to edge the board

Without edging they will be no pressure on the lines and you won't go anywhere

I did the same for a while. When you get up and feel like you are slowing down, remember to yourself - "if in doubt, let it out!" and let the bar out. Also as glasstrax says, you gotta go downwind until you get enough speed up to edge.

My thought process goes like this now:

- get up, point downwind
- dip the kite through another power stroke to get more speed
- bar out to half / center
- start edging when speed is gained

Be patient .its your second lesson. Kiting is about feel and experience you can read all the posts you want and try to conceptualise how to do it but really unless you are Superman you are going to go through what nearly everyone has done which is fall backwards after getting up.

Until you develop an intrinsic feel for what is happening with your body, the kite and the board in unison then you are not going to get up and riding like someone who has developed that feel. When you do it's pure poetry ..
.read as much as you can but FWIW my advice be patient and reset your expectations. If you think after two lessons you are going to be up edging and riding like guys who are holding upwind and doing tricks you are setting yourself up to be disappointed and frustrated for a while yet. There is a whole lot of progressions to go through before you develop that feel and unison.

If you are taking off towards the left, keep flying the kite up and down in a figure 8 shape as far to the left as you can without crashing it.

Dive your kite through the wind window from 12 o'clock,or just past, in the direction you want to go, with you bar fully out. As it powers up, pull in the bar to get up and moving. Turn your kite at the bottom of the dive and direct it back up (towards 10,or 2 o'clock). As you reach 10 or 2, dive again letting the bar out and pulling in again as you reach the bottom and swoop back up. Keep this sin wave action and you should build speed. I found that aiming your board about 45 degrees down wind was a good start, before edging, as the kite needs some resistance to build speed/power. I eventually found this worked for me anyway. Good luck.
