Hey folks,

My gf Recently made the mistake of buying me some lessons with xtreme kites and paddle down in Lincoln.. needless to say.. ive gotten the bug!

With plenty of surfing and sailing experience behind me and some water skiing when i was younger im hoping to add Kiting to the skill set!

Have at this stage got some second hand gear lined up via the guys at Xtreme, so i do hope to get back in the water asap!

Living in Adelaide, working between Adelaide and Perth and back again. should cover plenty of areas for kiting when i can! i cant wait to get the skills and confidence up to hit places in WA such as Lucky Bay/Cape Le grande national park. where i stay for work. and even head down to Scarborough and freo areas in Perth when im over there! places ill be hopefully kiting in SA will be local adelaide locations and also West Coast Sa, Around streaky bay and port linocln!

Look forward to catching up with a few like minded people from here..

and hope i dont bug too many people with many newb posts and questions!

hey craig!!

Have to say, your job sounds truly terrible... lol!!

When you are around adelaide, check out the "SAKSA" & "whos kiting where" facebook pages for info about where people kite, what events are going on etc.

Also, for info about where you can kite check out http://www.saksa.com.au/?page_id=279, which has a map clearly indicating where its ok and not ok to fly.

When its blowing a NWerly there are usually people at "the wall" (north haven beach between the breakwaters), and on a SW you can generally find people at henley, grange or largs north. (or down the mid coast if you are into waveriding)

feel free to shoot me a message if you're heading out or come and say hello on the beach, always keen to share the stoke with another person on the beach

have fun with the rest of your lessons!! and no such thing as too many questions either:) better be safe than sorry for sure!!

cya on the water

cheers, elise

Elise, after some reading.. i was of the understanding that " the wall" area was saksa financial members only?? as the relatively flat water and safer winds did appeal to me in that area. i often launch my kayak from that area when chasing snapper and other species from it.

and yes.. once i get my gear organised id like to be out a fair bit.. at the moment im scouring the web cams and working out where to get a quick surf in.. with out driving to victor :( Kiting will hopefully open up some better avenues for my buzz!

ps.. yeah the jobs a drain..i mean.. who wants to go camping and diving with sharks, dolphins, sealions, tuna, bush walking and mountain climbing for a living :P

i can honestly say.. i love my job!!!

Hey!

Yeah you can kite there if you are a member of SAKSA (which is also being a member of the national organisation AKSA). Its one of the best locations with that wind direction for sure. For more flat water stuff you may wanna explore port parham during summer as well (on a SWerly, usually a bit stronger than metro locations as well) . Flat as and great for learning:)

It is really worth signing up to be a member though, that money makes sure that you can continue to kite on the beaches that are open at the moment, gives you access to competing in events, but most importantly, if for some reason your kite goes out of control and hit someone or some property (or even flies down the road if you are unlucky), you are insured for lawsuits that would come together with the personal injuries or damage you may (unintentionally) cause.

SAKSA membership of $125 a year includes this liability insurance, but its also good to know, that besides being covered in SA, you are also covered all over australia, and even overseas as well :)

check out the link if you;re interested: http://www.saksa.com.au/?page_id=217

btw, very nice to meet you too before, hope you scored some good waves.. it wasnt really the day to kite haha, bit light.

cya on the water!

yep, i am definitely keen to join. once i get my gear and get sorted out ill join up and maybe even have the GF join up. she is expressing a keen interest too!

the insurance factor certainly is worthwhile. only takes a small accident to cover the costs!

and as for the beach.. what a small world we are in.. one minute we talking here.. the next.. at the same beach and going for a surf/kite! was good to see you get out there... much easier than my paddling!!! i really need to work on my launches.. but that will come once i get my kite/board sorted out!

uintill then... paddle paddle paddle....

and i was exhausted today after only a short session.. i think eastos training last week has taken more outta me than i thought! the 9000km driving in the last 3 weeks.. the surf sessions.. and the kite lessons... im showing my unfitness after 3 months outta the water!

Well elise.. after a second effort today.. i actually got into the water!

Yesterday set the kite up for the first time, but felt the wind was too much for me at the time so i got the trainer kite out instead. played it safe..

Today.. got down earlier. Set up and launched. spent 60-90minutes just body dragging and finding my comfort zone with the new kite. water launched it a few times and body dragged up wind a lot. this came in handy later on...

then.. Got the board out!

spent the next hour or so getting launched and bogging down.. launched and bogging down.. body dragging back to my board a few times. making use of the earlier practice.

until finally i was too tired to keep on going. my kite inverted inside on itself and i had twisted lines.. i dumped it and went to shore.

came home exhausted.. but happy!
