Hi all,

Here is a video edit on self-landing techniques for modern bow / delta kites. In this video, the emphasis is put on safety as the kiter isn't hooked in the chicken loop when attempting self-landing, which means that if the kite doesn't end up in a secure position, it won't power up and will be recoverable by following the safety line hand-over-hand to the kite.

These techniques are recommended for experienced kiteboarders with good flying skills, knowledge of safety systems and safe behavior.

Kites and wind conditions in this video are:

-17m 2013 Core XR LW, 18 knots
-12m 2012 Ozone Catalyst 20-22 knots
-10m 2012 North Rebel 22 knots
-7m 2012 North Rebel 25-27 knots

It is best to practice these techniques in lighter winds first, then attempt in stronger conditions. As long as the kite can be maintained in a stable position on the beach (not bouncing up and down) and that a good amount of surface area of the leading edge is touching the sand (this is achieved by walking upwind as well as tensioning the safety line) there is a good chance of success even in stronger winds.

The Core kites flag to both front lines as seen in the first part of the vid. (same as fuse)

Yep, North Fuse, North Evo... same as the first type of safety system explained in this video.

I tried it twice on a North Vegas not as easy due to the shape of the kite, need to get more practice on C-Shape kites, which is why I didn't include C-Shape kites in this video.

Self-Launch video, yes. working on it.

Here's another way of doing the same thing.

http://www.ikiteboarding.com/uploads/selflandkite.avi

www.ikiteboarding.com/kiteboarding/articles/how-to-self-land-your-kite.aspx

When I had kites that flagged on one front line I flew them down at a medium speed toward the beach on the side where the upper front line was leashed and when the kite was one kite width above the beach I popped the Q/R.
I only used it in lightish winds.

The OP's method is more versatile.
