Hi all,

I live in Victoria and have decided that Kiting is something i would like to learn. Can anyone please recommend reputable and properly qualified instructors in Victoria? Melbourne or Torquay Geelong area.
Thankyou,
Tackle

Hi Tackle,

Unless you shop for lessons on gumtree you will always get a qualified instructor when going to any of the kite schools in Australia. Times have changed and kite schools are now all properly insured with permits and have to employ certified instructors.

It's hard to recommend a particular instructor as the vast majority of schools hire new instructors every single season. There are a few exceptions and finding a senior instructor who has been working in the same school for a while will generally ensure better quality instruction.

Contact schools in your area and ask other kiters at your local kite beach for references.

Good luck and welcome to this awesome sport

My wife tried learning in St Kilda. It Sucked, the wind is too patchy and gusty, she gave up and didn't start again until we moved.
There's some nice winds in Rosebud and Inverloch, I haven't tried Geelong

I tried Torquay but there was too much wind shadow inside the point and too many rocks outside the point. It didn't look learner friendly to me.

Thanks all. I did have a chat to the guys at Stonker in Torquay and they do their training at Pt Henry or Pt Danger to Whites beach.
They offer a complete kit out and lessons for a total of $3500 for the lot. I think this gives about 3 or 4 lessons from trainer through to hopefully riding the board and a kite / board / harness etc etc.
Thanks for the comments and I definitely plan to go with a proper kite school. Thanks again guys.

I heard point danger is really good, I just never made it out there. The price sounds about right. Go for it. Welcome to the sport.
