OK, might sound stupid but not sure what gear I'll need for my first (3hr) lesson on Monday??

It's going to be 35c and the lesson is at Shoalwater.
Also I have pretty sensitive feet due to 2 operations on each foot so hot sand tends to hurt me before most.

So I was thinking boardies and a longsleeve rashy will be enough on top or will I need a short wetty/wetty shorts and a longsleeve insulater top????

Are booties OK or just take some crocs for the beach training and then ditch them and go barefooot if I make it into the water??

I have all this gear anyway from dinghy sailing.

Cheers,

RF

Hey Rumble.
I'm not sure what the beaches are like there....but..
I wish I had worn booties on my first lesson. My feet got ripped to sheds by small submerged, oyster covered rocks...after that I wore my surfing booties until I wasn't spending most of my session walking up wind to relaunch.
Some people will take the piss out of them....but they don't negatively affect my riding, so stuff 'em!

The shoes are never a problem, its the matching handbag that keeps getting tangled in the lines.

Seriously though , Ive worn booties and crap from back in the day when I modified diving booties to stay on in the surf for coral reefs. (cause there was nothing availalable to buy). When i got my first pair of split toe surfing boots it made a huge difference to the amount of control due to less slip on the sole (not your soul) . If you are going to ride a surf board go for some of these. I used them "south of Broome" on my windsurfer for years and there is quite a bit of out of the footstraps time required and the grip was always great and the protection from sharp stuff was welcome.

serious answer

Sunnies with a strap.

Bucket loads of sunscreen

long sleeve rashie

Booties are recommended especially if you have bad feet.

Stop regularly for a water break.

Or buy a cheap Camelback rip off so you've always got water- best thing I ever did.

OK, gotta ask (or bite)

What's wrong with boardies over a wetty??

As a dinghy sailor for over 10 years this was standard attire!!

Its ok to wear a bucket hat as long as you wear matching leather chaps with the arse cheeks cut out and fly a Cabrinha!!

O'neill Superfreak Tropical Split Toe Booties

Don't leave home without them. You can wear em from the time you lock the car to the time you come back. You won't even know you have them on.

Add boardies, a long sleeve rashie and what ever you want to wear on your face and head and you are all set. Sunnies and hats are musts later on for long term sun protection but you might want to skip them for the first few hours in the water. Douse yourself in suncream though.
