Hi there guys. Quick question. I come from a background of surfing (15+ years) and skateing. I have always obviously ridden normal stance (ie left foot forward). I am pretty new to kitesurfing, and am going upwind (and loving it!). Thing is I am tending to naturally continue my stance to change direction, and starting to ride backhand (ie not ride switchie - that just feels really counter-intuitive to me). Should I forcibly try break this habit or just continue riding my style?

Thanks for the advice

Entirely up to you.
If it's a style that your carrying over from surfing and skating then it's your style, so embrace it and go with it. Having every kiter copy each other to make one uniform style makes the sport boring and conformist.

That said, if you are still learning then it's going to be to your advantage to not lock yourself to being an asymmetric kiter. You'll probably find that you'll only be able to pull tricks in one direction and that one leg will end up huge and muscular... and the other one will end up small and decrepit, then all the kids will call you names.

they call me names already - lucky BOTH my legs are huge and muscular so I can open up a can of whip-ass on them!!

riding switch snowboarding enabled me to hit a vert half pipe on the skaty that much harder simply coz i could handle the speed after rock to faky.

do switch for sure... the only problem you will get is the huge amount of options that now appear.

on the snowboard when ever i was going slow i always went switch, when it got to quick for comfort id half cab and go forit goofy style..oh yeah, then back to switch when i slowed up.
I then just got beter and better at switch and got some real speed up.

dont know how you can apply it to kite but i think its gonna have something to do with your switch toe side...
