I'd be tempted just to let it dry out and give it a shake. The air gun should be fine but I wouldn't take the risk, unless its a very low pressure setup. But it seems a bit excessive for something that can be done with a shake

If I get the chance to pack my kite away on a grassy area, I often use a soft dustpan brush to clean off any sand before packing away. Once the leading edge is deflated I often give it a good shake as Leelo says.

Agree with Burkey. If u get wet sand on it or wet kite on sand wait till it dries (roll up lines etc) then brush off with soft bannister/dustpan brush.

I'd be concerned about the pellets making holes in the canopy.....maybe if you only give the rifle one pump??

Also do you intend to shoot each grain of sand off? sounds labourous.....

Seriousy though, let it dry and give it a shake whilst folding it up. Despite many commments about sand being abrasive etc etc, in reality, unless it is that NQ coral sand, your kite will be old and long since upgraded by the time sand wear becomes a factor.

I also suspect brushing (or blowing) sand out from behind the LE and other tight spots prone to wear - will cause as much wear as leaving it there to fall out next session. Just IMO though.

If you are set on using compressed air, I don't see any difference over brushing as long as you don't get the nozzle too close to the fabric.

compressed air has tiny amount of oil (from the motor) and other crappy particulates coming out of it.

So in effect, you will remove the sand no problems but you will potentially sand blast your kite material lightly and will leave an oil deposit which will make the sand stick even worse the next time.

This is also the reason if you ever cut yourself in a workshop, you do not under any circumstances reach for the compressed air gun to blow the dirt and crap out of the wound as you introduce these tiny particles of crap into the wound and subsequently will have that appendage removed due to gangreen!

In summary... I wouldnt but I have seen people do worse with their kites!
