That's a good question and
the answer would widely depend on the actual wind speed at the time.0 to 5 knots: If you have extremely light winds i.e.
LESS than 5 Knots, i.e. no pull in the kite i.e. not even a remote chance you can relaunch it, no obstacles, no people, etc. then you could just detach yourself completely from the kite, leave your bar floating, and go grab it.
5-10 knots: Unhook from the chicken loop while
keeping hold of it, unclip your leash (by then you are completely detached from the kite, just holding on to your chicken loop) and climb up your front lines until they split. Then follow only ONE front line all the way to the kite. As soon as you pull one front line the kite will flag out and it will be very easy to retrieve. Pay attention to the lines and stay away from them this way you can have very little or no tangles at all.
You essentially follow the same technique explained in the video below from 1:10 to 2:10 but without activating the QR
