Hi guys, I'm just after a few first jump pointers. I already have the chop hop style jumpe down, but I've been trying to get a decent boost jump in by sending my kite back in the window. My problem is that either the bar pressure on my kite is too strong for me to physically hold it in while boosting, or I just instinctively sheet out every time the bar pressure increases. Did anyone else encounter the same thing when learning? How did you overcome this? Do I just have to man up and keep focusing on keeping the bar all the way in or should I try pulling in that depower stopper thing so I cant physically sheet out at all? I'm sure that would work, but do I need to depower to land smoothly?
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Your first boosting jump will only be a few feet off the water so sheeting in before landing isn't essential, but when you send your kite back to 12 o'clock keep your edge don't bear downwind because you feel the pull of the kite. Keep your edge and pop off the water. Spot your landing and extend your legs to absorb the impact. Try to find a flat water spot to do it and constant wind. Good Luck

Hey. The progression DVD series are very good. Go for beginner first. Also kiteboarding 101.
Try to get your hands on either of these. They show you step by step.
Sounds like some big bar pressure. What kite are you using?

hey thanks for the replies!
Yeah I like the progression DVD's and now that I think about it, I am probably releasing my edge too early as I end up bearing off downwind after the failed attempt.
The kite I've been trying on most is a 12m Liquid Force HiFi. I've also got an 8m SS RPM but I don't get to use it as much.

i'm just learning to jump now too. i've found that it's good to try it on a bit of a gust and to send the kite quicker. when i was too timid with sending it i failed to launch. there are plenty of youtube clips teaching u to jump too. just type in how to jump, kitesurfing. oh and not sure why the bar is so hard to pull in... it should be no effort.
gee its a cool feeling landing a jump!!
Have fun!

Sounds like you're overpowered. Don't pull the stopper in so you can't depower, you will end up hurting yourself. The basic keys are: edge hard and lean back, send the kite with a bit of a flick from 11-1 or 1-11, you have to commit to this, no point edging and not sending the kite quickly enough. Start off with realistic expectations. Just go for a small jump and concentrate on piloting the kite down as soon as you reach the top of the jump. That way, there's less chance of penduluming underneath the kite and having it stall and crash. As you feel yourself lifting, then bar in and ride the boost a bit.
