Im new to kiting surfing only started this year and as i work away have probably been 20 to 30 times. I remember after my lessons when I first got my own gear and going to the lake and everyday something else would click and it would get better everytime. The learning is best when its steepest.
Then I started going in the surf doing down winders. It was daunting and hard work compared to the lake. It was always fun but i also always felt out of my depth. Would zoom out the back and pretty much stay out there for the whole down winder.
On friday i went by myself and just stayed up wind at yaroomba. Waves were small and forced myself to go right into shore and back out.
Sunday blew hard in the arvo and i went from Peregian to castaways and I sucked. Got some good air for a kook but really wasnt feeling it.
Went again today and something clicked. Wind was a little light at times but I was jumping waves or dodging them to get out the back, then coming back in and surfing the faces for ages, way longer then i could of done on just a surfboard and man it was so much fun. I was just hooting to myself for a constant hour.
Stay with it and things just click. Ive along way to go, before Im doing REO's and cutbacks but its going to be a great road to travel!!! Stoked!!!

Four years for me and things are still gradually slotting into place and making sense. I'd like to think you never stop learning or trying to improve.
Keep at it and enjoy the ride.

Read this the other day and wondered when I might feel like I was 'having a breakthrough' moment. Well today I felt like I made solid progress with my goal to go out and come back to shore to the same spot. Stoked! The feeling of making ground from edging upwind is awesome!
Happy days. Keep at it guys, hopefully everyone in the same boat will have good experiences too.

Stayining on the goldy opposite seaworld near KFC. Had a fun day today practicing jumping. 1st time I tried that on flat water without a wave as a ramp, stoked to say I landed a few and kept kiting.
Looked like someone may of washed up on the rocks near the coast guard. There seemed to be just dead wind in there, hope there kite was ok.
I also for the 1 st time had to body drag to recover my board. I think the current was going one way and the wind the other so took a bit of effort but got that sorted a few times as well. I've always kited where I could stand or worn a leash in the surf so it was good to confirm I could do something that I haven't had to do since I had lessons.
Kite on yeeeeow!!!
