This is probably a stupid question but do you attach the release end of your leash to the back of your harness, or do you have it in front? I have always had it in front but I was told I should attach it to the back of the harness because it's easier to reach it. I feel way more comfortable with the release in front of me where I can see it.

have it where it is easiest to reach and activate. I used to have it on the back for years but now connect it to the front as it allows for the quickest possible activation in emergency situations.

Yep, its far easier to reach the leash from the front but it needs to be a short leash. I guess around 75% of kiters have no need for a rear mounted leash and i think plummet even DIY'd a short leash recently and posted it up.

My airush leash is 1.16m long (unstretched) and is far to bulky to have next to the spreader bar. My core leash is only 57cm and is fantastic. I tried the longer leash at the front and it was worse than having it at the back

Thanks for the responses. A shorter leash sounds like a good idea.

Make sure the leash is around the right way too, the release needs to be closest to your body. I've seen a few long leashes with the release too far away to be reached under load.
