I posted before about taking up kiting again after a few years away from the sport.
I was at the stage of riding out and back switch
I did enquire about a refresher lesson here in WA, but they want $300 for it. (half my future kite)
My first and only lesson the first time round was on the broadwater in <5 knots
the trainer kite kept falling out of the sky
I went ahead and bought the gear from only that experience. got a dvd which helped too.
I'm pretty confidant in my kite flying/body dragging upwind stuff.
Seriously considering not bothering with a lesson , but maybe get another dvd.
what do you think?

Our beaches.
Our beloved sport.
Our community.
Your funeral.

$300 is significantly more than a refresher lesson should be; actually under $200 for a 2 hour refresher lesson using a schools equipment. That said if you're complaining about the price of lessons and equipment then kiting isn't the right sport for you.

well , yeah. I am complaining about $300 bucks on a refresher lesson when the money could go on better gear, remembering I've done it before.
I think thats pretty steep

I agree 300 is a bit much, i would shop around a bit
Just saying if money is a problem kiting isnt for you is not true, there is a lot of people who spend the minimal and is happy kiters.
I wouldnt go without the lesson though.
Stay safe

cheers wihan
I will ask around. I already have a hobby that chews money .
I've seen a complete package for 1500 bucks. liking those figures.
It's more the self rescue stuff I've never had to do and need to learn.

why not introduce your self to an experienced kiter, and ask for some help ? Might cost a few beers tis all !

if your only lesson was in 5 knots on a trainer kite then i suggest you really haven't had much of a lesson at all.

Ask yourself these questions.

can you water relaunch?
can you solo launch and land?
can you self rescue?
can you body drag upwind?
do you understand the safeties?

if the answer to most of those is no then you need a lesson.

Also think about this. While your learning yourl smash your kite into the deck repeated times and probably dammage it. do a lesson and smash someone elses kite into the deck. it will safe hours of abuse of your own equipment.

Also i see newbies buying Shiiite for inflated prices. get the lesson, learn more about the type of kite you need and you'll be less likley to buy a lemon.
